Honesty. Aging. Luck. Blessed.

In July 2021, at 71, I hiked the Labyrinth and Lemon Squeeze at Mohonk Mountain House with @mike.aidala during a 1:1 boot camp. Five years later, at 76, I audaciously returned to do it SOLO!

On a clear blue-sky autumn day, I followed the same trail, clambering over rocks, climbing ladders, and squeezing through tight crevices. Kind strangers helped me navigate four tricky spots. The Lemon Squeeze had a long queue, and I needed a hand with one big step up on the slick walls. Then up the ladder, out the top, and SUCCESS!!!

But here comes the honesty. Like many my age, I have a bad shoulder, a sometimes cranky hip, tight fascia, achy knees, and big toes with virtually no mobility. I use anti-inflammatories when needed and rely on every recovery trick I know: sauna, massage, Hypervolt, stretching, and hot Epsom salt baths.

My adventures may look different than they did five years ago, but I’m incredibly lucky to still do what I love: be in nature, challenge myself, find flow, and feel that same thrill of doing something HARD.

I hope to keep moving, exploring, challenging myself, and having FUN. I’m deeply grateful for my husband, who laughs with me and supports me as I live my 20s in my 70s! ❤️

And thank you, @mike.aidala, for creating the challenge, coaching, encouraging, and making it all so much FUN.

Fun, fun, fun… recharge and count my blessings! 🙏🍂

Must be something in the air… so many of my friends have new books! Following her many, impressive books for adults, my very dear friend, @drdaleatkins just published her second children’s book! Based on a baby deer she met at Tod’s Point - but of course, a meaningful story with depth & care.

Hope is not something you stumble upon once and carry forever.

It is something you choose.

In small moments.
Through connection.
Through kindness.
Through remembering what still matters.

Even when the world feels heavy, hope is something we can continue to create.

Loved this conversation on The Best Ever You Show with Dr. Dale Atkins! Ps…We’re kicking off Season 17 of the show!! https://www.spreaker.com/episode/the-turquoise-butterfly-love-loss-and-the-stories-that-connect-us-with-dr-dale-atkins—74812075 (Link in Bio - The Best Ever You Show)

What helps love live on across generations? In this heartfelt episode of The Best Ever You Show, Elizabeth Hamilton-Guarino welcomes licensed psychologist, relationship expert, author, and longtime TODAY Show contributor Dr. Dale Atkins for a meaningful conversation about family, connection, grief, resilience, and the stories that help shape who we become.Dr. Atkins shares the inspiration behind her children’s book, The Turquoise Butterfly, a tender story inspired by her mother and the extraordinary bond between grandparents and grandchildren. Together, Elizabeth and Dale explore how shared experiences, family stories, nature, and simple moments of presence can create connections that endure across generations. They also discuss how adults can help children cope with anxiety, change, grief, and uncertainty without trying to erase difficult emotions. This conversation is a beautiful reminder that children need our attention more than our perfection, that listening is one of the greatest gifts we can offer, and that the people we love continue to influence our lives through the lessons, memories, and stories they leave behind. This episode is for parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and anyone who believes in the healing power of love, kindness, presence, and connection. In this episode:• Strengthening relationships across generations
• Helping children navigate anxiety, grief, and change
• The importance of listening with curiosity and compassion
• How family stories preserve love and wisdom
• What grandparents and grandchildren can teach one another
• Finding courage, hope, and transformation during difficult seasons
• Why being fully present may be one of the most meaningful gifts we giveSometimes the people we love become part of the stories we carry forward. And through those stories, love continues to find us.

Anyone can yap about YESTERYEAR and sing STRANGERS praises. Sometimes it’s nice to read what everyone else is reading… but it’s also fun to mix it up!

Dear Deer by Dale V. Atkins is a sweet, thoughtful children’s book inspired by a real-life encounter with a doe and her fawn. Through the children’s experience in the woods, the story encourages curiosity, patience, empathy, and respect for wildlife. It reminds young readers that sometimes the best way to help an animal is to observe quietly and give nature space.

I read Dear Deer with my 6-year-old, and we absolutely loved it. Living in Colorado and being a very outdoorsy family, the message really resonated with us. We loved how the story encourages kids to slow down, pay attention to nature, and appreciate wildlife while respecting their boundaries. A beautiful read for little nature lovers!
