CW: sexual assault | 75% of sexual assault survivors are left with a disability — PTSD. As a therapist and survivor myself, I highly condemn the actions Cornell University’s board has committed in not properly addressing an alleged gang-rape of a female student in 2024. This month, the survivor proceeded with a lawsuit. None of the perpetrators have been arrested, and only two of the seven men were expelled.

You shouldn’t have to go through something yourself to care, and you shouldn’t have to understand this pain yourself to not inflict it on others.

Having the perpetrators write an essay at the time in lieu of further disciplinary action is disproportionate to what should have happened. There should have been congruent expulsions, mandated trainings, therapy, and most of all, the survivor must be able to seek and acquire justice. The survivor should also receive the proper mental health support and any other care necessary.

To survivors: the assault and/or abuse hurts; it’s hell. And it’s even more painful when authority figures and the justice system fails us. Assault and abuse is never your fault. Shame is not ours to carry. Know that there are people in this world who believe you and who will be gentle with you. I’m wishing you all the healing for the strength and resilience you carry so truly, yet did not deserve to be forced into. Be gentle with yourself as you heal.

Sara Grossman is an incredible advocate who has worked with the Matthew Shepard Foundation and Everytown for Gun Safety, and founded the Dru Project in honor of her friend Drew Leinonen.

dr. doreen dodgen-magee is a psychologist, author, and former senior Everytown for Gun Safety survivor fellow, who guides advocates across the country on how to stay healthy during election season.

Ophilia Lu is a sophomore at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. A past member of the City of Lake Oswego’s Youth Leadership Council, she has advocated for legislation addressing gun violence and the prevalence of tobacco and vaping products.

This week was busy honey! We celebrated Mark’s birthday 😍We did the photoshoot for a new product for jvn hair 💅 I got back on the road for my Hot & Healed tour 🏳️‍🌈 I also got to teach a masterclass at Ulta which was so fun too 🫶 I know its a busy season for so many people and just sending you love thru it. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone and I’m so proud of us for showing up babyyy!!

I’ve been to a lot of weddings. I met my HUSBAND at a wedding but still I somehow underestimated how my favorite part of getting married would be watching the people I love so dearly get to know and love each other.

This first photo is one of my favorites from the day because a month ago Sara, Cambria, and Hunter had all heard me gush about eachother and now get to know firsthand how lovely they are.

The pictures in this post are not as glamorous as the shots our incredible photographer got. But I want to take a moment to thank all our wonderful friends.

Courtland showed up to everything ready to help and have fun. Bachelorette party? Present and leading an epic prank. Loading up lights from Jesuit and taking them to Newberg? Of course. Juicing limes? You bet. The only one with insurance that allows him to be on a ladder at the venue? Sure-he will help hang everything and lead my tech students in set up and strike

Nani did such a beautiful job on my hair and was the perfect calming presence before the ceremony. ❤️

I like that this picture captures my Dad who is so fun and the most generous person I know and paid for most of the wedding!!! ALSO Renee who spent so many hours altering my dress! (Then had to watch as I got dirt all over it).

I don’t even know where to start when it comes to the amount of love and energy Sara put towards getting me married. She has supported me for many years in giving the best advice through breakups and new love, helped me buy all the makeup (and applied it), planned the bachelorette party with Brandy, batched cocktails, all while always being one of the most fun people in a room. Love you Sara!

Here is Emerson preparing for his best man duties. Emerson took the week off work and was my go to guy with errands. I sent him with a credit card and instructions for buying liquor, filling picture frames, printing menus, fixing Craig’s watch, buying beer, getting me a sandwich when my hair appointment went long. He helped watch Stanley, cleaned up the venue, cleaned the Airbnb and when we got home from our honeymoon he had bought US champagne. Craig and I are so lucky to have you in our lives Emerson!

Over the weekend we hustled up to Portland and back and were honored to attend the gorgeous wedding of @amberlyvorr and @craiggracias 💒 It was such a fabulous time and Amberly and Craig are two of the kindest, funniest, sweetest most loving people, individually and as a couple and the day was such a good reflection and celebration of that!

I’m going to try the multiple captions thing for the first time… so here is best wedding date Tyler and I at the stunning venue! It looks like Sunday in the Park with George behind us! 🖼️

Happy to announce that I’ve had some work done. How do I look?

April fools!

These are some images from my 60th birhtday party where the unbelievable @austincomfort surprised me by showing up as “drag doreen!”

Y’all…this was, perhaps, the most meaningful gift I’ve received in a very long time! I’ve known Austin since he was in high school and have witnessed his brilliance in so many spaces…theatrical ones, musical ones, relational ones, and more.

Austin’s talent is boundless and, what’s really remarkable is, so is his heart! I witness him honoring composers, friends, communities, and the vulnerable among us all the time. To have him honor me in this way (I always said I wanted to be present for his first time out in drag and this was it) is a profound honor.

Since my party Austin has introduced the world to @cora.justcora who is the queen we all need!

As a delayed birthday gift, might you all hop over and follow Cora (and hire her for all the drag events you dream of hosting…brunch, bingo, story time)!

It is my sincere belief that drag saves lives, offering the kind of joy and empowerment that other art forms and communities dream of embodying. Austin/Cora, thanks for what I know will be wild amounts of joy and positivity that you will offer the world in this new way! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOU AND CHERISH OUR CONNECTION!
