I don’t think time really heals everything. I think you just learn how to carry it. Seven years later, and this day still never gets easier. I miss you, Petrice. I miss what we would’ve become as we grew older, and I hope you know how much we still love and remember you. 💜

Five days. Countless memories. A heart overflowing with gratitude. ❤️

My Bay Area homecoming reminded me that home isn’t just a place—it’s the people who have walked with you, prayed for you, challenged you, celebrated you, and welcomed you back with open arms.

This week was filled with community classes at the African American Art & Culture Complex, Dance Mission Theater, and Silks Movement Studio; performances, a book signing, meaningful conversations, a talkback, and the opportunity to donate PAST SHAME to bookstores, HIV/AIDS organizations, LGBTQ+ centers, and community spaces so it can continue reaching those who need it most.

I also had the joy of supporting fellow artists, taking class from teachers and mentors who poured into me, reconnecting with old friends, making new ones, and witnessing how beautifully the Bay continues to grow. Every hug, meal, ride, studio, performance space, laugh, prayer, high five, word of encouragement, and moment shared reminded me that love is still alive.

To everyone who came to class, attended the performance, bought a book, volunteered, donated, hosted me, prayed for me, or simply spent time with me—thank you. You made this homecoming unforgettable.

I’m especially grateful to God for keeping me here. There was a time I wasn’t sure I’d live to experience moments like these. Every reunion, every conversation, every dance, every embrace is a gift I never take for granted. I also carried with me the memory of those we lost during the pandemic and those I never had the chance to say goodbye to. Their love continues to move through us.

Until next time, Bay Area… thank you for reminding me that community heals, love endures, and there’s always room to come home.

With a full heart,
Frankie ❤️

My cup is so full from the amazing magic co-created at ROOTS & RHYTHMS Afro Jazz Funk! 🙏🏾🫶🏾🙏🏾🫶🏾

Frankie @fleedance taught a moving lyrical jazz. The students were giving ALL THE FEELS.

Alicia @alicia.dance.inspire led an upbeat Afro Caribbean groove where students were whinin’ up and gettin’ down!

Slide 3 shows Alicia’s “Party Starty” warmup where the students lead the movements and slide 4 shows a portion of Frankie’s exercise allowing students to explore texture.

There were so many other great moments including across-the-floor and a mini talk on the history of jazz dance.

A big thank you to everyone that made it out and the numerous folks that couldn’t make it, but shared with their communities. 🙏🏾

We would definitely love to do this again. If we did, YOU IN?!?!

The Black Landscape Podcast sits down with The Algiin’s - honored to share more of my father’s @algiinford1 & I’s story on the next episode of @theblacklandscape tomorrow at 12:30pm (airs early next month)

This hits deep because I recognize the privilege I have as a Black Queer male to have unconditional support from my father and how this is not a norm in our community. Together, we’ll reflect on our journey as artist, father & son, collaborators and what’s next—like my father’s solo show May 8th at the SF International Arts Festival @sf_international_arts_festival and my dance residency May 16th & 17th at PUSH @pushdance
