“SEND parents are just lazy” … said someone who has absolutely NO IDEA what our lives actually look like. 🙃

This was just ONE week of the things I’ve had to do for my children. Medical appointments, SEN meetings, chasing professionals, completing endless paperwork, reviewing plans, speaking to services, researching specialist settings, advocating, following up, and making sure the support my children need is actually in place.

And that’s just the stuff that makes it onto a list. 🤦🏼‍♂️

What people don’t see is everything else that comes with parenting neurodivergent and disabled children. The social stories. The now and next boards. The constant preparation, explaining, prompting, reassuring, regulating, adapting and anticipating. The things you might typically associate with parenting a baby or toddler, but that you’re still doing for your 8-year-old because THEY STILL NEED YOU TO. ❤️

There are days when you’re not just being a parent. You’re a carer, an advocate, a researcher, an administrator, a coordinator, a chaser of professionals, a form-filler, a voice for your child and sometimes the person holding everything together when the systems that are supposed to help just make life harder.

And through it all, you’re still trying to be the parent your children need. To make memories, have fun, meet their emotional needs, keep the house going and look after yourself somewhere in the middle of it all.

So, when someone calls SEND parents lazy, I genuinely wonder what planet they’re living on. Because most of us aren’t doing less parenting. We’re doing parenting on a level that many people will never see, understand or even begin to imagine.

We’re not lazy. We’re exhausted from fighting for the things our children should never have to fight so hard to access. 🫶🏼

And if you’re a SEND parent reading this, please know that I see you. The invisible workload is REAL. The mental load is REAL. And you are doing SO much more than people realise. ❤️

After the terrible news today about poor little Noah, I've just come across this petition and signed it.

The petition creator sadly lost her own 18 month old boy, Harry. 💔

Let's get this petition above 100,000 signatures and save lives. 💙

There's only around a month and half left so time is of the essence.

A year ago today, I opened a door without really knowing what was on the other side.

On 15th September 2025, I travelled to London for the Fight For Ordinary rally, stood in front of nearly 1000 people and gave my first ever public speech. I spoke about my experiences, our education system, the things I wanted to see change and, most importantly, the young people coming after me. I was absolutely terrified, but I walked away knowing I’d just done something that really mattered.

What I didn’t know was how much that one day would start…

Over the last year, I’ve had conversations I never expected to have, met some of the most incredible people, shared my experiences in places I never imagined they’d reach and built a platform that allows me to keep talking about the things I care about most.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without @dream1ncolour. From founding The SEND Sanctuary and creating that opportunity in the first place, to everything that has followed since - Aimee, you gave a very nervous 16 year old a microphone and a chance to use her voice, and she hasn’t shut up since! I love you BIG, and I’ll forever be grateful for what you started.

Because somewhere along the way, this became so much more than one speech.

The young people who are misunderstood. The ones whose behaviour gets noticed before the person underneath it. The ones who don’t fit neatly into an education system that wasn’t built with them in mind. Those are the young people I want to keep using my voice for.

A year later, I’ve realised more than ever that this is what I’m meant to do. And I’m so glad I opened that door ❤️

🎢✨ Let’s settle the Disney park debate! 🏰🌴

I’m always really curious to know which Disney parks in Florida are people’s favourites, and, just as importantly, which ones are their least favourite! 👀

For me, it’s always been a toss-up between Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios for the top spot. But this year, Magic Kingdom has just about taken the crown for me! 🏰❤️

I’ve also really started to enjoy Animal Kingdom, especially with the introduction of Zootropolis/Zootopia 🦊🐰 and the exciting upcoming Encanto area! 🌺✨

And then there’s EPCOT… 😬 While there are definitely some great attractions and experiences there, it’s probably the park I’d choose to spend the least amount of time in.

But enough about my choices…

Aimee: “If I could get back to how I felt in this photo, I’d be amazed.”

This transformation means so much to me because it isn’t just about the weight Aimee has lost. It’s about the woman she’s become along the way.

Every single check in, I watched her confidence grow. She started showing up for herself, trusting the process, and slowly letting go of the all or nothing mindset that had kept her stuck for years.

When Aimee joined NKD, she felt completely trapped.

She’d been gaining weight year after year, was caught in a cycle of binge eating, hated looking in the mirror, and genuinely believed nothing would ever work for her.

But I promised her she was in safe hands.

The first thing we did wasn’t put her on a restrictive diet. In fact, we started with a reverse diet. We worked on repairing her relationship with food, reducing the binge eating, building habits she could actually sustain, and proving that fat loss doesn’t have to mean giving up your life.

Balance became the goal, not perfection.

Since joining NKD, Aimee has lost an incredible amount of weight, maintained her results, and, most importantly, learned how to eat without constantly swinging between restriction and bingeing.

She’s now back with me to lose the final stubborn 6kg, and despite it being the middle of the summer holidays, she’s already making brilliant progress because she now has the tools to navigate real life with confidence.

Seeing messages like, “If I could get back to how I felt in this picture...” makes me so proud because I know she’s no longer chasing a quick fix. She’s building a lifestyle she’ll keep for life.

Wow what a week 🤩

This book contributed to me finding my people, it made me feel like I fitted it somewhere and was a very honest view of what it feels like to be diagnosed later in life and finally let the mask down 🥹💖
I recommend this book to EVERYONE, so we can all grow together, with understanding and feel accepted for who we are and most importantly less alone 🫶🏼

Earlier this week I popped into London to support the book launch for lovely Lisa Lloyd who many of you will know as ASD with a G and T.

Her second book, Unmasking Mum, has just been published, following the success of Raising the SENbetweeners (a Sunday Times bestseller!).

I’ve written a review of this new book over on my blog and you’ll probably not be surprised to learn that I loved it, as much as her first one. It’s honest and humorous and helpful; everything I expected from Lisa.

The book launch was a chance to meet and catch up with lots of other writers and SEND Mums who I admire. I came away with a full heart and a buzzing head! Danielle from PDA Parenting made me laugh with her honest account of the event - Boobgate! You’ll have to head over to her page to make any sense of that 😆
