FIVE YEARS IN THE LOAM 💚

To celebrate five years of Ladies Who Loam, we made a T-shirt that’s a little snapshot of our time on the trails.

Each piece of the design was created by a different rider at Ladies Who Loam. A proper community-built tee.

And a shout-out to the trail builders and diggers who keep these trails running!! There are a few of us in the crew who have put our share of hours in too. 🫶

PRE-ORDER OPEN UNTIL OCTOBER 10TH

🌸 Pink tee / red print
🖤 Black tee / cream print (long sleeve available)
$48 Short $58 Long

Order form linked in bio.

The design was supported by @bikladesigns . Expect good quality tees you can ride in and wear for years to come.

their shows cost five dollars. they never sold merch at gigs. and this song opens the ep that made the diy scene believe it could be done differently.
washington dc, 1986. ian mackaye had already been through minor threat and a short lived band called embrace that fell apart fast. he watched it collapse and decided he was not going to make the same mistakes again. this time he was going to wait for the right people and the right moment.
he found joe lally on bass and brendan canty on drums. guy picciotto joined a year later on second guitar. picciotto had been in rites of spring, another dischord band that burned out early. four musicians who had already lost bands walked into a room and started Over.

the song ian wrote about that waiting became the opener. he called it waiting room. joe lally worked out a circular bass line that felt like funk trying to escape a punk song. brendan sat in the pocket. guy and ian tore into it at the top of their voices.
they recorded it in june 1988 at inner ear studios in arlington virginia with ted nicely behind the board. twenty two seconds in the whole band drops out and lets the bass hang alone in the room. then everything crashes back. walter schreifels of quicksand later said that everything great about fugazi was spelled out within the first verse and chorus of waiting room.
waiting room came out that year as the opening track of the debut fugazi ep. a year later dischord compiled it with the second ep as 13 songs. the record sold hundreds of thousands of with the second ep as 13 songs. the record sold hundreds of thousands of copies without a single big-label push. atlantic records offered them more than ten million dollars to sign. ian said no. no amount of money, he said, is worth losing control of our music.
so shows stayed five bucks. shirts stayed off the stage. and when the pit turned rough ian would lean into the mic and ask, politely, if the person in front could please cut that crap out.
it is a song about waiting for your chance. and what you do with it when it arrives.
