Sometimes life gives you flat light and flat landings, but that’s when the best really shine. Tip of the hat to the successful riders today, especially boss @leoslemett, back from injury showing us how it’s done. 👊

Proud to be a part of the graduating class of FWT 2019!

Though the finals in Verbier remain, the fourth “crunch time” stop (this year in Andorra) is always the most emotional, as we find out which riders did and didn’t make the cut for the following year. This has also been a season full of injuries - most of them away from competition - but either way, our field is down to far fewer active riders than we began 2019 with. •
This year has also been a huge challenge for me personally. I was feeling confident and strong in November, but just before ski season started, I sustained a PCL sprain to my right knee while playing soccer. Though I was initially certain my ski season was compromised, my doctor and PT told me that I still had a chance of skiing and competing. Though the sprain healed quickly, I was nowhere near 100% and my mentality went from aiming for podium results, to hoping I’d be strong enough to maintain a top-10 ranking through the year and qualify for the finals in Verbier. •
And I made it, but only by the skin of my teeth. In Andorra, when it looked like the event may have been cancelled, my ranking put me tied for 12th with Navarro, in which case we’d both qualify. Now, with yesterday’s result, I’m tied for 11th with Gorak, making us the last two to make the finals. •
This sport is full of conflicting emotions. Though it’s highly individualistic, there is immense camaraderie between virtually all the riders. And while I’m extremely happy to advance in the tour, I’m gutted for those who didn’t make it - many young, strong, committed men and women whose abilities should see them into the top tier of the sport, but who through whatever circumstances each event handed out, fell below the cut after all the cards were on the table. •
Now I head home for 9 days to recharge and recenter and spend as much time with my lady as possible. Then it’s back to the Alps for Verbier, followed by a stint in my skier spirit-home, Chamonix. Thanks to everyone - our friends, family, fans and hosts around the world - for your support and positivity throughout the season, it makes a huge difference! Onward!

It’s pronounced “big mountainskiing.” It’s all about having a sick assrun. From last year at @kickinghorsemtn 📸 @hipsterpix

When you realize why your guide wanted to start an hour earlier! Here you can see a harmless but impressive loose snow avalanche billowing off the cliffs above us, as fresh snow released from the rocks with the first rays of the morning sun. The bigger hazard was behind the ridge above us, where we planned to ski through some big, steep terrain before the day really warmed up. #thehillsarealive @eddiebauer 📷 @carolinewaregeorge
