I first saw Wilko..love and Death and Rock'n'Roll when it was on in London last year, it was so good I had to go along with @martin.hardy.357 last night at The Palace Theatre, Westcliff on Sea, just down the road from where I live, and very near to Wilko's home too...
A fantastic night out, a real celebration of the man himself as well as @drfeelgoodband . Its on until Saturday i believe, so still a chance to get along (if there are still tickets available that is...) Not to be missed!

JANUARY BLUES FESTIVAL 2027 presents DR. FEELGOOD with special guests EDDIE & THE HOT RODS at 229 The Venue, London on Thursday 21st January 2027.

Tickets available now at: agmp.co.uk

The January Blues Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2027, and we’re thrilled to welcome British Rhythm ’n’ Blues legends Dr. Feelgood to the festival.

Formed on Canvey Island in the early 1970s, Dr. Feelgood went on to become one of Britain’s most popular live rhythm and blues acts, with a catalogue including Milk & Alcohol, Down at the Doctors, Roxette, She’s a Wind Up and See You Later Alligator.

The current line-up features Kevin Morris on drums, Gordon Russell on lead guitar, Phil Mitchell on bass and charismatic frontman Robert Kane.

Joining them are very special guests Eddie & The Hot Rods. Formed in 1976, the band scored three hit albums and four UK Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 classic Do Anything You Wanna Do, and toured alongside the likes of Ramones, Tom Petty, The Police, Squeeze and Talking Heads.

Completing the night is Snowboy, hosting and DJing with original blues 45s and more.

Two great names in British rhythm and blues, together for one night as part of the 10th anniversary January Blues Festival.

Fifty years ago this month — not forty, despite what old reissue stickers might say — Dr. Feelgood pulled off a real coup. Released 17 September 1976, Stupidity was a raw live document from a Canvey Island pub band, and within days it did what no live album ever had: went straight to Number One in the UK.

No hit single behind it. Just Lee Brilleaux’s ragged harmonica, Wilko Johnson’s machine-gun guitar, and a rhythm section — John B. Sparks, John “The Big Figure” Martin — that never let up. Recorded live at Sheffield City Hall and the Southend Kursaal, cut raw by engineer Vic Maile.

Brilleaux called it proof of “how a live band really goes to work.” Melody Maker branded it “aural GBH.” AllMusic later called it “the relentless, hard-driving energy of Dr. Feelgood at their peak.” Writer Graham Reid simply named it “one of the great live rock albums.”

Wilko Johnson, asked late in life about his happiest days in music, didn’t hesitate: “Stupidity was number one and all that, and my family was young.”

A few months earlier, Dr. Feelgood had played NYC’s Bottom Line with an unknown support act — the Ramones. Back home, punk’s future was watching. Joe Strummer bought a Telecaster after seeing Wilko play — “Joe played a Telecaster because of me!” Paul Weller has called them “the first band...that really meant something to me.” The Stranglers’ Jean-Jacques Burnel described them as “a bridge between the old times and the punk times.”

Fifty years on, with a genuine 50th anniversary vinyl now in the racks, Stupidity still sounds like a band with nothing to lose.
