O1's Champs BUCS success (officially: 5th place & top female goalscorer, as good as officially: standout goal of the tournament - Anežka's buzzer beater!). This success is accompanied by a short compilation of Chris being annoying with an honourable mention to the impressively thorough job he did of wrapping a waterbottle in about 1km of tape. Overview Day 1: Pool games and play offs 💛Vs Sheffield Hallam 21-12 🥳 💙breakfast bellies fueled a confidence boosting strong palindromic start 💛Vs Strathclyde 20-2 🥳 💙team pulled through some niggles, tempting injury fate, to get that ball in the basket at a stellar rate of 0.5goals/min 💛Vs Kent 10-8 💔 💙we rattled em proper with a 4 goal lead but were put back in our place by sheer willpower and some sharp shooting 😔 we'll get em next time lads x 💛 Vs UEA 20-8 💔 💙8 goals? Doomed to lose :( Some of the best korf we've faced all year and by an ox squad perhaps on the last dregs of energy we could muster and with Anezka's eyesight fading every second yet still somehow popping in those goals - certainly one to be proud of. Day 2: playing off for 5th-8th 💛 Vs Manchester 12-8 🥳 💙as Matt put "I know we don't like ourselves but we didn't need to make it quite so difficult". We discovered that a 6 goal lead was, in fact, insufficient to ensure an easy breezy second half. Team spirit and some of Niall's game management pulled us across the line 💛Vs Sheffield 16-12 🥳 💙the case for this being the most exciting 'final' of the day is not one to be sniffed at. Up down rollercoaster clichés apply. A very enjoyable game to play which secured us our 5th place!! Thank you very very much to all the organisers, UEA, refs, shotclockers, Matt and Lizzie for driving, Kara and Chris for directions, Maggie and Alan for the carbo load feast, Niall and Alf for their wisdom nuggets, many people for live streaming, Will and Joost for scaring the opposition from afar, and a special thank you to Anežka and Lizzie for committeeing our club to greatness this year 💛💙💛💙💛 Missed it? BUCs Qualifiers for the firsts today saw them wake up for a 04.30am drive to Cardiff (aka Korfdiff) to take on a plethora of other teams fighting for a place at National Champs! The early rise saw us full of energy with back to back wins against Birmingham 3 and Bristol 1 which placed them at the top of the group. (already giving them a place at champs!!!) The afternoon however didn't bring the same fortune: a close loss to Exeter and a loss to Cardiff meant we ended up 3rd overall! Nonetheless a superb day of korfball for the blues, securing their place at champs in a few weeks' time! Shoutout to female top goal scorer and female MVP, Flora!! Her unbelievable play was vital in getting us to the next stage! Also, big thanks to Niall for coming down and coaching! O2 have their qualifiers next week, so stay tuned to see how they do there!

Another huge weekend of korfball with a total of three league games for the teams! O2 had just the one game, and O1 had two games! O2 took on Didcot Dragons in a fiery battle! Some great buckets including one from from half way line territory from MVP Emily. A penalty from Szabi, and goals from Beth and Shriraj sadly weren't enough to beat a strong Didcot side, with a full time score of 13-6 to Didcot. Although the scoreline wasn't in our favour, the performance was there: O2 showed passion and skill, and we're eager to show the world what we've got at BUCs in just over a week's time! O1 had some better luck! An incredible 2 wins for them this weekend starting off against the strong Buckingham Royals team. It was a very close game but a huge effort from the team led to a very satisfying 18-17 victory. MVP went to our wonderful Anežka. As put by perfectly by Lizzie, “Anežka the queen of cool and scoring a winning penalty”. This was followed by a comfortable second win of 25-10 to Guildford, MVP to korf legend Flora who absolutely smashed it as usual!! Shout out to Lizzie for her insane korfmitment all day…. play-ref-play-coach-ref 🤩 and to Lennie, we hope you enjoyed the birthday korfball! What a way to end the term!

Another weekend full of korfball action for both the firsts and O2! The first game of the day saw the firsts take on the mighty Oxford City 2 in what turned out to be a nail-biting thriller. Some end to end action, intertwined with perfect passes, incredible interceptions and sharp shooting saw us take the win, with a full time score of 18-16. A real battle of the greats! MVP was Flora for being a goal machine scoring as many as the rest of the team! Is that the title decided?? BUCs here we come 👀🏆 O2 were also in action against Abingdon Atoms 3. Some fast play from both teams meant we were kept on our toes throughout, but sadly our shots didn’t drop, whereas their shots did (and in some style too, might I add). A full time score of 12-5 to them meant we didn’t take the three points, but we did take a lot of positives from the game! From the timeouts and team talks, there was real improvement from the whole team! Shout out to Lizzie for staying the whole day to help coach the team! (Do you notice any familiar faces in the third photo?)

A super weekend of BUCs fun this weekend! Both O2 and O1 took on Birmingham 1-4 and Reading 1 in this preliminary round! O2 managed wins against Birmingham 3 and 4, but sadly this was not enough to see them make the top 5. Shout-out to goal machine Emily for bucketing 5 and also to Beth for being a super sub against Birmingham 3 scoring 2 decisive back to back goals! O1 had a few more wins to add to their ever growing record! They managed to win EVERY single game! Unbelievable! Whispers of "Korfball's Coming Home" came from the crowds as we crowned 2 top goal scorers in Flora (19) and Chris (9). Thanks to Birmingham Uni and Reading Uni for showing us some great sportsmanship, and giving us a good fight on the court! Astonishing performances from everybody, but that's the last korf action of 2021 for us - let's hope for more korfball madness in 2022!

Both O1 and O2 in action this weekend with some mega results!! Two games for O2 today which means twice the number of match reports! Our earlier match saw O2 take on Didcot 2nds and gain the first win of the season! It was a tight game early on as we were finding our feet after our week off from matches but then MVP Emily sank a shot from miles out which gave the team all the momentum they needed. This was joined by a combined 7 other marvelous goals from Michael, Grace, Emily (again!) and Sophie (who helped bolster up our numbers). The final score was 8-5 and the victory was certainly well earned through a massive effort from the whole team. Brilliant work from all and there will almost certainly be celebrations at tomorrow's training! A storming win from O1 today, upping our goal difference from 4 to 14 from our last battle with Didcot at the start of term. A brilliant improvement! There was a whopping 14 goals between Flora, Anežka and Joost- just bashing them out guys!! And Fran’s signature defensive domination and beautiful shots earned her a very well deserved mvp. Bring on the next game!!

Another superb Sunday of korfing action from the blues; it was full of both tricks and treats 🎃 as O2 and O1 were both in action! As Harry said, ‘It may be on Halloween but that’s our opportunity to trick our opponents into a loss and treat ourselves to our first win’. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case, and the opponents (Abingdon 2) took the win, but everyone played brilliantly! There was a huge improvement from all players as everyone took on board the coaching tips from each other and fellow O1 spectators who stayed on to watch. Massive congratulations to Juan, Michael, Shriraj and Maddie for scoring some sensational goals as well as Emily and Grace for some impeccable interceptions! Michael scored two amazing long distance shots that didn’t even touch the sides of the korf, and Juan and Shriraj both scored as newbies - well done guys. Maddie’s shooting and astonishing defending earned her MVP again! Alejandro and Jack got into some fabulous collect positions - definitely giving Chris (O1) a run for his money! It was fabulous to have the O1’s supporting everyone, and the cheering from the sidelines was bound to scare away Abingdon 2 for next time... Well done everyone! You all did tremendously!  O1 also had another fab korf Sunday, with a second week of back-to-back games! In game one, they had a big victory over Oxford City, and game two was a small loss to Abingdon Atoms, but some great play and lots to learn from nonetheless! As captain Sophie put it: "Well done today guys... getting over 7 goals in a row, such an impressive turnaround!" Shout out to the whole team, and shout outs to our MVPs dynamic defensive duo Intercept & Collect (aka Sophie & Fran)

Today marks three years since @daniel.huf and I launched @thearmitagefoundation. Happy third birthday to us! We have come such a looooooonggggg way!⁣⁣ ⁣ The Armitage Foundations started off as a medical outreach programme called Leanne’s Amazing Medics. I delivered this programme to 8 students in my old secondary school’s Sixth Form. I realised that by Sixth Form, the students we were targeting (those from low socioeconomic backgrounds and certain ethnic minorities) often didn’t have the grades, work experience or personal development they needed to make competitive medical applicants.⁣⁣ I shared my frustrations about this and my vision for change with my now co-founder @daniel.huf and he empathised with me and proposed joining forces. Since then we have gone on to:⁣⁣ - Impact over 100 students⁣⁣ - Officially register our charity⁣⁣ - Hire our first staff member⁣⁣ - Form official partnerships with two leading universities (@kingscollege.london and @stgeorgesunioflondon) and my current hospital – @medwaynhs ⁣⁣ - Start paying our previous volunteers who are now Medic Ambassadors⁣⁣ - Expand our board of trustees from three to seven! ⁣⁣ ⁣ We wouldn't have been able to achieve this without the kind support of so many - thank you!⁣ ⁣ Please continue to help us achieve our mission of an NHS that reflects the diverse society it serves by donating £3 and nominating 3 people to do the same!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #TheArmitageFoundation #Donate3Nominate3
