Before we launch the 2026 @cvpr.art gallery, I wanted to highlight the last of the prize winners from 2025 - Tom White @dribnet, who came and built this flower windmill structure last summer at CVPR.

Atlas of Perception (2025) by @dribnet
Prize Winner of the CVPR Art Gallery 2025

What if everything we see is composed of just a few hundred visual elements? Much like how three primary colors combine to form the vast spectrum we perceive, our visual world might be built from a limited set of fundamental concepts.

The Atlas of Perception reveals these building blocks of visual understanding by exploring the latent space of neural networks. By examining how machines parse our world, we gain insight into the grammar of appearance itself—the modular semantics of vision.

Modern neural networks perceive our world through their own version of visual concepts—elemental patterns that combine to form complex imagery. Through artistic interpretation and mechanistic interpretability techniques, this project makes these hidden elements visible.

Displayed on a continuous circular canvas that has no beginning and no end, these visualizations mirror the formless nature of the abstract feature spaces within AI systems. The radial arrangement invites viewers to consider perception as circular rather than linear—a constellation of interrelated concepts rather than a hierarchy.

One month to go until we close the open call for @cvpr.art gallery 🤖🎨

Last year was so much fun - we had everything from rotting apples to interactive robots and multiscreen sculptures. Above all, I was grateful to see so many artists and researchers attend in person.

This year, we're again looking for:

🌑 Artworks created with novel computer vision techniques
👻 Artworks created using established computer vision techniques in original or unexpected ways
🤔 Artworks presenting a critical or alternative perspective on computer vision techniques and applications

Accepted artworks will be exhibited at the CVPR conference in Denver between 5-7 June and also in our online gallery thecvf-art.com

Submission deadline is 8th March, link in bio. You have one month 😄

2024 Residents
A month-by-month look back at GAZELL.iO’s 2024 residency programme and the artists who shaped a year of experimental, ecological, and generative digital practice.

January: Primavera De Filippi
Plantoids — autonomous blockchain-based lifeforms exploring decentralisation, ecology, and post-human agency.

February: Ahaad Alamoudi
If You Know You Know reflected on motion, time, and perception through digital image-making.

March: Sarah Friend
Portal Constellation proposed an alternative internet navigation system, reviving webrings to challenge search-engine hierarchies and automated visibility.

April: Alice Bucknell
Simulation-driven worldbuilding using game engines to explore ecology, power, and speculative futures.

May: Solimán López
Invisible Pegaso transformed electronic waste into a copper-coated sculpture, imagining future collaborations between biology, technology, and space exploration.

June: Anna Beller
The Prototype series bridged plotted digital systems and intuitive painting, balancing structure, chance, and the human hand.

July: Zach Lieberman
GAZELL.iO’s 100th resident, coinciding with Awaken, Metamagical Hands, exploring the poetic potential of creative coding and generative geometry.

August: Parag K. Mital
Conflicts staged endless AI-driven dialogue between lifelike NPCs, examining identity, mediation, and synthetic social systems.

September: Kate Hollenbach
Interactive digital works exploring embodiment, participation, and networked experience.

October: Liliana Farber

Tom White — Maximum Activations

In Maximum Activations, artist and AI researcher Tom White visualises the hidden “proto-concepts” inside Large Language Models — the intermediate ideas neural networks use to organise their understanding of language and the world.

By isolating the specific inputs that trigger these concepts, White reveals how AI clusters knowledge into themes — from supplies for a journey to patterns of social media behaviour. These activating contexts are then transformed into vivid collages, turning raw computer memory, datasets, and neural connections into tangible, striking artworks.

The result is a rare glimpse into the mind of AI — making visible the intricate and often unexpected ways machines process information, while prompting deeper questions about interpretability and transparency in machine learning.

Back home after an intense week running the @cvpr.ai.art gallery in Nashville, where we displayed 16 individual projects, 57 videos on 10 screens and a total of 102 projects online 🤖👀

The diversity of projects and the creativity of artists never ceases to amaze me when I run these open calls - we had everything from flower robots displaying emotions to windmills made of screens and apples rotting (diffusing) in soil 🍏

Thank you to all the artists who participated in the online and on-site galleries and showed up in person from across the world, making this a very special part of CVPR.

P.S. Next year we go to Denver, Colorado 🤓

Reprogramming Sensory Habits By Luba Elliott @elluba for @cvpr.ai.art with @dribnet @justin_urbach @frog_spit_simulation

📖 lerandom.art/editorial/reprogramming-sensory-habits📖

Elliott explores what the latest research into AI and creativity reveals about the changing nature of how we see and its impacts on contemporary image making. The curator of the AI Art Gallery at the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) conference speaks to three of the shortlisted artists: Tom White, Justin Urbach and Karyn Nakamura.

As a preview of this year's gallery at CVPR, I interviewed three of the artists including @dribnet @justin_urbach and @frog_spit_simulation for @lerandomart_ @monkantony

The artists gave some pretty thoughtful answers and I can't wait to showcase the full gallery - online from the 11th June and at the conference from 13th to 15th June in Nashville.
