A word, perhaps. A few of them.
Hi. I'm B. Some of you know me, some of you don't. Maybe a long time, maybe a moment.
Depending on the perspective, what I show may come as a surprise or as a statement of the Obvious.
I was going to start off by writing 'I'm a doctor' - but that would make this aspect my whole identity and if there's anything I've had to unlearn the past years, it's that.
So no.
I'm a woman. I'm a feminist. The headstrong, raging killjoy type, the reading type, the shouty-on-paper type. And yes, this comes from my medical background - as a cardiologist, initially, I wasn't too aware of healthcare disparities. Women get heart attacks, men get heart attacks, fair enough.
However, things started to change after my cardio-oncology degree. All of a sudden I saw young breast cancer patients at risk of heart disease, or developing cardiac toxicity from their cancer treatment, patients younger than me. Swallow that.
Until at a certain point in time, Ann @ann.dewalque and Lien @lwillaert from Rebelle (@rebellevzw ) contacted me to participate in their podcast 'Openhartig' ('open-hearted'), for something about heart disease in women. I honestly told them that that wasn't really my specialty, that I mainly focused on heart disease in cancer patients. They got back to me. If I could talk about exactly that topic, then. And that got everything moving.
I tripped and fell down the rabbit hole of sex and gender disparities in cardiology, in medicine, in healthcare, in history and in current times. Women in the face of patriarchy and capitalism. Underrepresentation. Underdiagnosis. Undertreatment. Anonimity. Invisibility. And I haven't come out. I dove deep during a time in my life where I was struggling with myself as well (different story entirely, or not that different perhaps), and all those things made me come to terms with who I am.

🖤 MSK x NOIR EXPLAINED 🖤

📅 In exactly 2 weeks, it’s happening! NOIR is partnering with the MSK, the oldest museum in Belgium, and we can’t wait!

Here’s everything you need to know for a smooth evening:

🕰️ 03/04/25 from 6 PM to 10 PM during the Late Thursday event. Doors open at 5 PM.

📍MSK Gent - Fernand Scribedreef 1 - 9000 Gent

❓On this special evening, MSK and NOIR are hosting a flash night inside the museum! Become your own canvas for the museum’s collection 🎨11 of our artists will be spread out across the building, tattooing a total of 44-50 of the more than 150 flash designs available. It’s just like any other flash day/evening: first come, first served. Make sure to arrive early (from 5 PM) to secure your spot, as the queue will open at 5 PM.
FULL = FULL, but don’t worry, we’ve got a consolation prize for those who miss out! 🎉

Prices start at 80 euros. Everything is clearly outlined in the flash books (size, price, etc.). Your tattoo will be paid on-site when reserving your spot, and it cannot be refunded since your spot is reserved specifically for you. So be sure of your choice! Don’t forget that you’ll need to purchase a museum entry ticket, which can be bought at the ticket counter the day of the event or through the website (link in bio). Hurry, as tickets sell out fast!

Want to just come and watch? No problem! You don’t have to get a tattoo if you don’t want to, and spots are limited anyway. There will be a bar for drinks, henna and stick-on tattoos available, and plenty of merch for sale. You can also try to draw your own flash art during the drawing sessions hosted by the museum. Plus, don’t miss the new exhibition by Jules De Bruycker!
