Driller Jet Armstrong is an Adelaide DJ and visual artist who has been behind the decks since the 1980s, playing underground house, disco, funk and left-field dance music guided by a record’s effect on the room.

In 2002 he founded Sugar on Rundle Street and ran it for more than two decades, hosting hundreds of international artists including Jeff Mills, Moodymann, Theo Parrish and DJ Harvey, and he was inducted into the SA Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2005.

He founded the vinyl-only label Dessert Island Discs, whose catalogue is now preserved in the National Film and Sound Archive, ran Brown Sugar Gallery for 18 years and founded the Daubist art movement.

His DJing has taken him abroad too, from a six-month residency in Jakarta in the 1990s to Japan in the 2010s and Klymax in Bali in 2024, and his Percussions warehouse party won Renew Adelaide’s 2016 Best Community Event award. @driller_jet
