🎨 ARTIST TALK | 4 OCTOBER

We’re excited to welcome artists Alison McDonald and Danish Quapoor to The Drill Hall Studio for a special artist talk on SUNDAY 4 October, 10–11am

This is a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from two established Townsville artists about their creative practices, processes and experiences as artists working in regional Queensland.

Alison McDonald, the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards Art for Life winner, has been creating work in Townsville for more than 20 years, working across everything from jewellery to large-scale sculpture and installation.

She’ll be joined by fellow Townsville artist Danish Quapoor, whose multidisciplinary practice spans textiles, ceramics and illustrative painting. Danish was also a finalist in the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards.

Whether you’re an artist, emerging creative, art lover or simply curious about what happens behind the artwork, this is a great chance to come along, listen, ask questions and connect with other people in our regional arts community.

🎨 TONIGHT at The Drill Hall Studio!

If you’re a local artist or simply someone who loves supporting the arts in our region, we’d love you to come along to tonight’s opening exhibition for @flyingartsalliance

We’re excited to be hosting the Flying Arts Alliance QRAA Touring Exhibition, Momentum, and today is a great opportunity to learn a little more about the organisation behind it and how they support artists and arts communities across regional Queensland.

Living regionally comes with its challenges, but there are also some fantastic organisations out there working to connect us with opportunities, professional development, networks and support.

So come along, have a look through the exhibition, meet other local creatives and learn more about what Flying Arts Alliance could offer you and your creative practice. 💙

You don’t need to be a professional artist - if you’re curious about what’s available to artists in regional areas, come and join us.

🎨 Regional artists, this one’s for you!

We’re so excited to officially launch the Flying Arts Alliance QRAA Touring Exhibition, Momentum this week at the Drill Hall Studio.

We also wanted to share this exhibition as a little reminder to our local artists about the opportunities that are available to us here in regional Queensland.

Flying Arts Alliance supports artists and arts communities across regional and remote areas, helping connect us with opportunities, resources, professional development and creative networks.

Sometimes, living regionally can feel like we’re a little removed from what’s happening in the wider arts industry. That’s why organisations like Flying Arts Alliance are so valuable. 🤎

So, if you’re a local artist, come along, experience the exhibition and take the opportunity to learn more about Flying Arts Alliance and how they might support your own creative journey.

You never know what opportunities, connections or inspiration might come from simply showing up.

Official launch is Thursday evening 24th September 5:30pm -7:30pm at the @drillhallstudio

We hope to see you there 🙌🏼

Okay, I’m doing something a little different with my artwork…

I’ve had some of my pieces turned into prints - but honestly, I’m still figuring out what works!

So I’ve put a few trial prints into the Gallery, and I’d LOVE your opinion.

Come have a look, feel the paper, check out the sizes… and tell me what you think! 😊

POV: your mum loves flowers and you’ve just found forever flowers 🌸✨

No watering.
No wilting.
No “I’ll enjoy them while they last.” 😂

Just a beautiful piece of art she can keep forever. 💐

✨ Something to put in your diary 🗓️

We’re beyond excited to be hosting this year’s Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA) - Flying Arts Alliance’s annual visual arts awards celebrating artists living and working across regional Queensland.

With Australia’s largest regional art awards prize pool, QRAA is a wonderful celebration of the incredible talent, creativity and stories coming from regional communities.

This year’s theme ‘Momentum’, explores the idea that continuous forward movement requires balance. In a fast-paced world, art gives us a space to pause, reflect, connect and innovate.
