Another relatively simple, but time-consuming fix. At least the weather is cooperating.

Skulls on tanks weren’t some radical new idea. Skulls and other emblems of death have been mounted on horses, chariots, ships, and shields as long as warfare has existed.

They weren’t just decoration.

They represented the ability to confront the possibility of death, intimidation of enemies, the defiance of human spirit, and an acceptance of the reality of war.

Some of the most famous examples of skulls being mounted on tanks come from WWII and Vietnam. Tank crews personalize their machines with names, artwork, and symbols that reflected the unit they were with and the men inside the machine.

When these men were confronted with the unapologetic reality of war, they chose to mount the ultimate symbol of death onto their machines of death.

And that’s pretty metal.
