POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@newbreedbjj Tulsa was a success! 🥇🤼

This tournament was a true team effort, made possible by the dedication and support of our coaches, parents, spectators, athletes, affiliates, and everyone who stepped up to help.

Every athlete who competed contributed to the team’s success. Whether they brought home gold, silver, bronze, or gained valuable experience on the mat, every match and every point mattered. Even a bronze medal makes a difference and helps contribute to the team’s overall score.

That collective effort paid off as our athletes and affiliates earned:

🥇 1st Place Kids Team
🥇 1st Place Overall Team

The athletes who did not compete also played an important role. Every round in training, every challenge, every lesson, and every bit of encouragement helps prepare teammates for competition. Their contributions are just as valuable and do not go unnoticed.

Congratulations to everyone who participated and supported the team. This was a true team accomplishment, and everyone should be proud of the role they played both on and off the mat.

What an incredible experience it was to welcome the cast of “Letting Go” @lettinggoforus to @tritonfightcenter . Their visit was more than just a training session — it became a powerful reminder of what Jiu-Jitsu truly represents. The cast stepped onto the mats with open minds and courageous spirits, embracing the opportunity to learn techniques, challenge themselves, and even spar with our members.

One of the most inspiring moments came when some of the young men had the chance to grapple with two of our younger athletes — a 15-year-old female and a 16-year-old male. Despite being outweighed and facing older training partners, they demonstrated the essence of Jiu-Jitsu: that leverage, timing, and technique can overcome size and strength. It was a beautiful display of how Jiu-Jitsu empowers individuals, proving itself not just as a sport, but as a deeply practical and elegant self-defense art.

Beyond the physical training, there was a shared recognition of reality — an appreciation for both the dangers of the world and the confidence, discipline, and awareness that Jiu-Jitsu helps cultivate. The cast walked away with more than new skills; they gained perspective, respect, and a deeper understanding of personal growth through challenge.

At the heart of “Letting Go” is a universal and emotional theme: mothers preparing to release their sons into the next chapter of life, sending them off to college and into the unknown. During their time with us, we witnessed that love firsthand — mothers who want nothing more than strength, resilience, and success for their children. It was a privilege to play even a small role in that journey.

Stay tuned — this is shaping up to be a truly powerful reality series.

Northeastern Noël, our annual holiday celebration at @nsumusic, was last night and it was such a special event. Congratulations to @justinkroll on coordinating, directing, and bringing new life into this concert. A huge thanks to all of my colleagues and to all of our musicians who contributed to this event. In particular, this was a special year for me because I had the chance to perform with my students in the Jazz Lab Ensemble, who have been such bright spot in my week this semester. As the semester approaches the end, I’m very tired but also very grateful for my students and colleagues. Music! Bravi tutti!

Professionally and personally, this has been the best year of my life. I’m so grateful for my colleagues at @nsumusic for hiring me and gifting me with your friendship, and I’m grateful to our incredible students for being patient with me this year while I figured out my classes and my life. I love teaching each of y’all— you’re so smart and capable and hilarious, even when you make my hair turn a little more gray. Year #1 is in the books! 💚🦅

I’ve been trying to write more music for voices lately—still cutting my teeth, of course—but I’m very grateful to have such masterful collaborators like Mark Anderson and the The Pittsburgh Camerata, along with poet and muse Andy Wilkinson. Jeff Wall and the Vox Solaris Chamber Choir also provided such valuable feedback back in December to help round out the rough spots. Here’s the final product: “Ekklesia,” a short, bittersweet goodbye.

Student singers from 12 different area high schools came together today for our @nsuriverhawks Pre-Audition High School Choral Workshop. They worked really hard. They were attentive, responsive, disciplined, and respectful. We had lots of fun through the work to prepare them for upcoming All-State auditions. SO MUCH IMPROVEMENT today. They sounded great! Thanks to their choir directors for entrusting us with a small part of their preparation.
