Two days with the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women, Black in Business cohort, and I’m still sitting with everything.

300 Black women business owners in one room, 12 weeks of pouring into what we’ve built, and somewhere in there a shift from founder to CEO. Not a metaphor. An actual operational shift: knowing our numbers, building the playbook, stepping back from the parts only we thought we could do.

This cohort has been a masterclass in shifting from founder to CEO. Founder energy says “I’ll do it all myself.” CEO energy says “I know my numbers, I know my vision, and I know how to lead.” Watching that shift happen in real time, in myself and in the women around me, has been everything.

Grateful for Goldman Sachs, for this cohort, for every woman in that room building something bigger than herself. This is only day one. More to come.

The Goldman Sachs business program has been one of the most valuable rooms I’ve stepped into.

I had the opportunity to learn from over 50 subject matter experts, more than 303 fellow women CEOs, and one brave male CEO. 😊 The conversations were honest, strategic, and transformational.

One takeaway continues to echo in my mind:

Everywhere is not where you need to be.

As entrepreneurs, it’s easy to chase every opportunity, attend every event, say yes to every partnership, and pursue every dollar. But growth isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what matters most.

From this point forward, every opportunity should pass four tests:

✅ Does it serve your central mission?

✅ Does it create meaningful profit or recurring revenue?

✅ Can it scale beyond your personal time?

✅ Does it build an asset, relationship, capability, or body of intellectual property that your company will retain?

If the answer is no, then it’s probably a distraction disguised as an opportunity.

As I continue building KOE and Vivalife, I’m learning that focus is one of the greatest competitive advantages an entrepreneur can develop. Every “yes” should move the mission forward. Every investment of time should build something that outlasts me.

Not every opportunity is your opportunity.

The most successful leaders aren’t everywhere.

They’re exactly where they need to be.
