What if more freedom is making you less happy?

Everyone’s chasing options. @ash.lmb flipped it on us: what if happiness comes from limiting them? Burning the boats, no way back, just committing to what you’ve got.

Phil opens up about spending his 20s and 30s chasing career highs and thrills, coming out of a hard period of depression, and realising the real cost was never building. Incredible life, but at a cost.

In the full episode we keep pulling on that thread: how do you know when you have enough to commit?

The “everything by 30” timeline is quietly dying.

A generation ago the house, the marriage and the kids came by 25 or 30. Now a lot of us want to live to the max first and push it as late as possible.

Luca knew moving from the US to Europe would put him on a completely different timeline. He still hit his own goal of having a business by 30. For men, he says, the pressure to build stability first hasn’t gone anywhere.

It all started with a question from @ash.lmb: what if happiness doesn’t come from more freedom, but from committing to less?

Did you set yourself an age deadline? Did you hit it? 👇

What if going against the grain isn’t about rejecting society, but finding your own way through it?

In this episode, designer and visual thinker Ash (@ash.lmb ) shares how skipping university, teaching himself on YouTube and backing himself when nobody else understood led him to work with Steven Bartlett, Will Smith and CNBC.

If you’ve ever felt the pressure to tick boxes you never chose, this conversation is a good place to start asking why.

Ash, born in Mallorca and now an illustrator of New York Times bestselling books, talks about the tough school years that taught him to hide his creativity, and the moment his dad told him uni would be a waste of time for him. He also opens up about owning his ego, why he now wants commitment over freedom, and the job in San Francisco that ended with a nine-hour border interrogation and a flight straight back home.

Hosts Phil, Luca and Julian bring their own perspectives. @philwilkinson811 shares his sliding doors moment at 30, choosing the Rio Olympics over a three-year relationship. @drlucaccj explains the difference between being a contrarian and being a trailblazer, and why fear sits underneath most of what holds us back. @julian.vdp recalls the careers computer that tried to choose his future, and how he landed a job against 10,000 applicants by messaging the CEO 60 times. Together they ask the big one: are we choosing our lives, or just ticking boxes?

An honest, funny listen for anyone at a crossroads, questioning the path laid out for them, or wondering if it’s too late to take a different one.

So, what’s the biggest risk you’ve ever taken?
