POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Leuven Pride came down the Vaartkom on Saturday: drummers, dancers, furries, parents and two older people on a mobility scooter.

We walked a little, watched a little and mostly took photos. @leuvenpride invited everyone to walk proud, visible and determined, and the people in these photos did exactly that.

Grey sky, full colour. Fans in the air, flags worn as capes, a giant rainbow flag laid across the road, a zebra crossing turned into a dance floor. UZ Leuven’s cargo bike in full bloom, and KU Leuven’s LGBTQIA+ staff group walking under their own name. And one banner, carried by parents in Dutch, French and English: acceptance begins in the family.

If you’re in one of these photos and would rather not be, send @mezeandmoules a message and it comes down.

“We’d love to credit the drummers in black” - The drummers in black were DROM (@dromdebatterij). 👇

The word PRIDE in cream letters casts six long rainbow shadows down the wall behind a crowd with rainbow fans and a tinsel costume. Text on image: "LEUVEN · THIRD EDITION · 26.09.2026", "PRIDE", "VAARTKOM · 3000 LEUVEN".

DROM
A 25-piece groove guerrilla you can’t ignore.

This mobile outdoor ensemble builds a physical wall of sound, as their handmade drums roar and whisper, moving through bodies, hearts, and limbs.

When darkness falls, DROM brings its own lighting and transforms public spaces into a spontaneous street rave. More often than not, the audience becomes part of the journey swept into the rhythm, the energy, and the collective experience.

Some weeks smell like summer. Dust on festival roads. Accordion cases in the shade. A dog sleeping beside the musicians. A square that is empty in the afternoon and overflowing by night.

This week. Different years. Same band.
30 years on stage. Brussels based.

2000–2002
Belgian park festivals. Village kiosks. Open-air stages by the sea. A band learning that summer audiences arrive from every direction.

2006
France.
Toulouse. Ichis. Saint-Vallier.
Improvised stages. Ping-pong between soundchecks. A little girl dancing in front of the stage while a whole accordion marching band joins the concert.
That tour felt less like a schedule and more like a travelling village.

2007
Hoorn. Châlons-en-Champagne.
The calm before the crowd. Then the blur that happens when brass, rhythm and people start moving together.

2008
Canada.
Vancouver Island. Fort MacLeod.
Waterfalls. Workshops with musicians from elsewhere. Night concerts under huge skies.
The road became a landscape lesson.

2016
Gentse Feesten.
Rehearsals behind closed curtains. Guest musicians from DROM. Mec Yek voices joining the stage. And a Sint-Jacobs crowd that seemed to breathe with the band.

2025
Genk.
Afro-Latino.
New songs from Vertigo. A catwalk instead of a club floor. The same accordion energy carrying three decades of history into another summer night.

Different festivals. Different countries. Different generations in the crowd.
Still arriving with instruments. Still leaving with stories.

We don’t archive the past. We carry it.
Still playing. Still moving. Still open to the next stage.

#JauneToujours #BrusselsMusic #GentseFeesten #FestivalLife #OnTour A portrait of Jaune Toujours musicians Mattias Laga and Mathieu Verkaeren sitting on chairs in a sunny French landscape in Ichis in 2006, smiling at each other while holding a clarinet and a guitar, with a large brown dog lying at their feet. Overlay text reads: “This week, across 30 years.”
