As humans, we feel incredible emotions. Sometimes so many at once that we don’t know what to do with them. Dance became my outlet, my way of expressing the things I could never quite put into words. It was where I celebrated, where I cried, where I escaped, and where I found myself. I hope one day I find my way back to it.

As I say goodbye to one of the most special parts of my life, I also leave behind the people who shaped me into who I am. Not only did I make friendships I’ll hold onto forever, but I also met some of my biggest role models. Even the younger girls (and Thomas) taught me more than they’ll probably ever know.

For a long time, I looked around the dance world, watched everyone get ahead of me, and wondered why I wasn’t enough. Starting competitive dance at 15 made me feel like I was always trying to catch up. I compared myself constantly. I questioned if I belonged. But somewhere along the way, I realized that dance was never about catching up. It was about showing up.

The most important thing dance taught me is that you are not defined by your score, your placement, how many titles you win, or how late you started. You’re defined by your character, your resilience, and the way you keep getting back up when it would’ve been easier to quit.

Looking back now, I don’t remember every score. I remember the hugs before we went on stage, laughing until our stomachs hurt backstage, crying in dressing rooms, long competition weekends, the people waiting in the wings for me, and every moment that somehow became a piece of home. Those are the things I’ll carry with me.

Dance gave me so much more than I ever could’ve imagined. It gave me confidence when I had none, a place to belong when I felt behind, and people who changed my life without even realizing it. Leaving is heartbreaking because I know there will never be another chapter exactly like this one. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

And to my girls, thank you for making this feel like home. Our hearts are mending on & off the stage forever. 🩷💙
