PRE-MADE INCISIONS OR SHARP IMPLANTERS?

What if a surgeon uses BOTH?

Dr Raghu Reddy has one of the more unusual approaches I've encountered in my 25-doctor series.

He previously used pre-made incisions with technicians placing the grafts using forceps.

But some years ago, he changed his approach.

Today, he creates the recipient sites with needles first, then places the grafts using sharp implanters.

Why combine the two?

Dr Reddy believes the sharp implanters fit particularly well into the needle-created sites.

He also explains how he uses existing skin pores, where hairs previously grew, to help guide the placement of a natural-looking hairline.

He describes the grafts sliding into position "like butter".

And there's another reason he's moved away from forceps.

Although he believes forceps can work well with some hair types, he doesn't feel they're equally suited to every type of graft.

So he's now been using implanters exclusively for years.

What's particularly interesting is that his method doesn't fit neatly into the conventional pre-made versus DHI debate.

He creates the sites first, then uses sharp implanters for placement.

Another reminder that hair transplant surgery is far more nuanced than simply choosing between two techniques.

25 doctors. Same question. Different approaches.

I asked 25 UK-based hair transplant doctors how they create recipient sites and place grafts during a hair transplant — and their approaches are very different.
Pre-made incisions. DHI. Sharp implanters. Dull implanters. Forceps. Hybrid approaches.

Rather than telling patients that one technique is “best”, I wanted to put the doctors side-by-side and let them explain what they do and why they do it.

The first full comparison brings together all 25 doctors in one video.

Dr Raghu Reddy vs Dr Ted Miln 🇬🇧

Two highly regarded UK hair transplant surgeons, but with different strengths and approaches. Dr Reddy is known for his experience, natural hairline design and conservative long-term planning, while Dr Miln has a strong surgical background and is capable of larger graft cases, including combined FUT and FUE procedures.

There isn’t one surgeon who is automatically “better”, the right choice depends on your hair loss pattern, individual goals and, importantly, which surgeon’s results you prefer.
