39. Man, God is faithful.

I don’t write publicly much anymore. There’s a few reasons for this, but mostly: I’m just moving with a necessary alacrity and precision that leaves me little time to show my work. Twin toddlers and life stuff have me finishing off major and minor battles like how Goku did Recoome with a one-hit elbow to the gut. (So, if you haven’t heard from me in a while, put it on my tab, not my heart. ❤️)

This isn’t just fancy talk: 38 was a straight up WWF Royal Rumble. But I choose to no longer wear what I’ve been through for style points.

I have to admit: some of my old writing was (in)decent exposure that begged for attention, an unnecessary triple bypass to heal a heart that just needed a defibrillator. I believed that I’d make it through, but I didn’t have faith that I’d make it through — so sometimes I needed a deluge of praise to get me over the top.

But, for some time now, belief has been replaced by faith. “I think” has been replaced with “I know”. I trust God and have seen Him be Him to me more than enough times over for me to act based on His truth, even in the face of real deal uncertainty.

And when I hit confusion or setbacks, I bob and smile with a quiet confidence. No histrionics, no doomsday announcements. I replay His faithfulness over a “Peace Be Still” sonata that has serenaded my soul during double toddler kitchen tirades, stupid hospital bills, and much, much more.

At 39, I am SO grateful — to reach another birthday, to see the Knicks make the NBA Finals again (!), to kiss a great wife and hug a great family — but, above it all, to know that God is faithful, to act like it, and to see Him continue to pay it off in mind-boggling and eclectic and fantastic and riveting ways.

I love Him, and I love you guys. GO KNICKS! 🗽🏖️🙌🏾🟠🔵

It’s Only By the Grace of God that I am Here Today as a Medical Student Doctor

‘This degree is for the ones who came before me with nothing but dreams.’ I wrote that as a first-year student, heart racing in a white coat that felt way too big, wondering if I’d ever make it. Now I stand here as a doctor. Living proof that their dreams weren’t too big… they were just waiting for me to carry them home. This moment is built on my ancestors’ sacrifices, my parents’ prayers, and God’s grace. ❤️
