✨Deep Dive with Dr. Frost!✨

This patient came to us with:
🔹 Gummy smile
🔹 Protruded arches
🔹 Crowding
🔹 Narrow arches

When Katrina came to us from California, her gummy smile was something she wanted to change, but as Dr. Frost talked with her, it became clear something affected her confidence even more: her profile.

Katrina felt like her lips sat too far forward and struggled to comfortably bring them over her teeth. Addressing that became just as important as correcting her gummy smile.

This case required Dr. Frost to approach gummy smile correction differently. The plan was to extract four bicuspids, intrude the upper arch to reduce her gum show, then use those spaces to retract her teeth and improve her lip position and facial balance.

Following her extractions, we placed TADs and focused first on intrusion. By 13 months we had reached our gummy smile goals and shifted to retraction, carefully bringing the teeth back while maintaining proper incisor torque and the beautiful, broad arch we were creating.

This was a case we didn’t rush. We continued closing spaces, refining her bite, and dialing in every detail before finishing with hard tissue contouring and a laser gingivectomy to refine her tooth proportions and gum heights.

And then came the best part. 🩵

When Katrina saw her finished result, it wasn’t only her smile she loved. She loved her lips. She loved her profile. And she loved that the gummy smile that had bothered her for so long was gone.

Katrina’s case is a beautiful example of comprehensive treatment planning: looking beyond individual problems and considering the smile, profile, facial balance, bite, and most importantly, the concerns the patient trusted us to address.
For Dr. Frost, it also meant stepping outside his clinical comfort zone and combining extraction treatment with gummy smile correction. Sometimes delivering the right result means being willing to think differently and let the individual case guide the plan.

Katrina, thank you for trusting us with your smile. Seeing you love your smile AND your profile is what this is all about. ✨🩵
