It took 2 weeks of introspection to get my thoughts together ❤️

@blackingastro Grateful is an understatement!
Being in a room full of fellow Black women physicians, nurses, students, medical professionals felt different. No one had to explain the challenges. No one had to translate the struggles. Our shared goals were felt in every conversation.

Our session was titled “When the Pivot Is Power: Redefining Your Career Path.” As a speaker, I gave it all to the audience. The story of me and of @tribal.eyes. Every story and every answer was for them. I wanted to care for them, honor them, and pour into women who came hungry to learn, to be seen, and to find their next step. They wanted more, and that is the greatest gift a speaker can receive.

My fellow panelists poured out just as generously:
✨ Dr. Naomi @doctoringdifferently on building Doctoring Differently, and why fear may come with you but it won’t move you forward
✨ Dr. Sylvia @drsylvia_o on taking back control by taking on less, and making room for herself and her family
✨ Dr. Joy’El @drjoyel on redesigning her career as a medical advisor so she can be fully present for her children.
A pivot doesn’t always mean starting over. Sometimes it’s building something new, sometimes it’s doing less, and sometimes it’s showing up differently.

The largest gathering of women in tech was just cancelled. Weeks before it opened. Gone.

When spaces that support women disappear, women step back. In medicine, nearly 1 in 4 women physicians is no longer working full time within six years of finishing training. For men, it’s fewer than 1 in 25.

And patients feel it. Studies across millions of patients link care from women physicians with lower mortality, and women patients have better surgical outcomes with women surgeons.

So every time we stop investing in women, we are deciding who will be at your bedside.

This isn’t a women’s issue. It’s a patient issue. And we are all patients.

I am still in awe over what I experienced at NEXUS Conference….I was immersed in….
BLACK GIRL MAGIC. BRILLIANCE. LOVE.

I had the pleasure of moderating a panel of powerhouses @doctoringdifferently @doctorona.atl and @drsylvia_o

On behalf of @blackgirlvitamins, I had the honor of presenting scholarship awards to two young Black women who aspire to transform healthcare.

I was able to hug the necks of those I’ve admired from afar @drjaynemorgan @drnosebest @drkameelahsays

Shout out to @melodiewithibd for a conversation that touched me deeply! And shout out to all the new connections I made with some beautiful Sistas in medicine!

This year was my third year attending the NEXUS conference. NEXUS has continued to curate unique experiences: facilitating crucial conversations when it comes to Black women's health and careers in medicine while allowing us to connect with colleagues and deepen this sisterhood within medicine.

What an incredible experience to be invited to speak at the ABGH Nexus Conference with @blackingastro I’m still taking it all in: reconnecting with friends, meeting new ones, and learning so much from the programming. My notebook is full, and so is my heart.

I was especially moved by @k_jeanpierre Karine , former White House Press Secretary. Hearing her story and all she has accomplished, and continues to accomplish, was a powerful reminder to never let anyone define our worth or our abilities.

To the team behind Nexus, you put on an amazing conference. Well done, and thank you for having me 🥰

Spent the past few days at NEXUS 2026, and I left with a lot more than notes.

Across conversations on leadership, medicine, visibility, sponsorship, career pivots, women’s health, and equity, one message kept surfacing: you have to be intentional about the life and career you’re building.

A few lines that stayed with me:
“Your ambition must supersede your comfort.”
“You have to establish your reputation outside of your boss.”
“Fear can come with you, but it can’t drive the car.”
“You do not need permission.”

That last one especially.

I’m at a point in my own career where I’ve been thinking deeply about growth, visibility, purpose, and what it means to use everything I’ve built in a bigger way. NEXUS gave me language for some of what I’ve already been feeling.

Grateful for the conversations, the people, and the reminder that sometimes the next chapter starts when you decide to bet on yourself.

The Women in Medicine Summit is part conference and part magic.

Yes, you will learn a lot (and get CME credit)!

But you will also experience something that can’t be taught or sold. The chance to connect with and be inspired by real women tackling real problems affecting our lives and our patients right now.

You’ll be a part of really difficult conversations, but then you’ll be galvanized by seeing real women working tirelessly on the ground on real solutions.

And you’ll also laugh. And dance. And make friends who will change your life.

At least, that’s how it was for me.

If you missed it this year, I hope you’ll join us next year. Step outside of your comfort zone, put yourself out there, do it scared, and watch the magic unfold. We need your voices now more than ever.
