Poem #3 on my literary road trip across America.

📍 Epic Universe

A place built around portals, new worlds, and transformation felt like the perfect place to read Naturalized.

Because sometimes the biggest journey isn't stepping into a fantasy world.

It's finding your place in a real one.

Three poems. Three places. One unforgettable journey.

Poem #2 on my literary road trip across America.
📍 Great Smoky Mountains
The mountains were wrapped in mist. Some things were visible. Others disappeared into the clouds.
That felt like the perfect place to read Classified.
A poem about what is hidden, named, overlooked, and remembered.

Road trip. Poetry. America.
I'm driving from Wisconsin to Florida and reading my newly published poems from iconic places along the way.
First stop: Chicago's Bean.
A sculpture built on reflection felt like the perfect place to read Incorrect.

For years, I stopped writing poetry.
Then, unexpectedly, Drunken Boat invited me to submit my work.
Today, I'm honored to share that three of my poems are featured in Drunken Boat Issue #26.

The issue asks: "What does it mean to belong nowhere—and persist in making art?"
As a Hmong writer whose family's story spans displacement, migration, and resilience, being part of the Statelessness folio feels deeply personal.
This publication feels like a return to a creative voice I haven't shared in a very long time.
Sometimes the creative parts of us go quiet.
Sometimes they find their way home.

I’m honoured to share that my work is now live in Drunken Boat Issue 26: Statelessness.

The title of the folio suggests a legal condition, but the works gathered here move far beyond legal definitions. They ask what it means to belong when home exists in memory, in language, in family stories, in longing, or in places that no longer exist in the way we remember them.

As a Roma writer, these questions have accompanied me for a long time. Not only questions of nationality or borders, but questions of inheritance: what survives displacement, what is carried forward, and how we make homes from fragments.

I am grateful to be in conversation with so many remarkable writers and artists in this issue. Thank you @empurpler for reaching out, I am truly grateful!

The line that stays with me is the one on the cover:

“For the response to erasure is never silence. It is, always and stubbornly, more art.”

I’m in the new issue of Drunken Boat, under Statelessness 🇵🇸

Over half of the Palestinian people in the world are stateless, a condition rooted in the 1948 displacement (Nakba) and compounded by decades of occupation, with Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and diaspora countries holding no recognized sovereign citizenship.
