Yes, it is true something like this puts everything into perspective.

Although I did not want to make a large dramatic post, I wanted to share some happy memories from recovery so far. I also want to extend my gratitude out to everyone who has sent their thoughts, prayers and love out to me and my family during this time. As for what happened, I was on a jog/walk with my roommate & best friend Kyleigh when I was struck head on by a pick up truck while crossing in a cross walk beside our house. Yes, I was cautious the entire time. As I would like to keep this short and informative I was rushed to our local hospital where they then transferred me to the Level 1 trauma center at UAB hospital since my condition was critical. When I was rushed into UAB, I headed in for emergency surgery to stitch up my lacerations on my chin, lip, and nose. During my first few days at UAB I was informed about my fractures all over my face including a Le fort 1,2, and 3 which dictate the severity of each fracture and the placement. I was blessed to have visitors coming everyday to cheer me up and make time go by faster while also lifting my spirits. After learning how to swallow again with my bottom and top jaw completely broken as well as some occupational therapy to help me walk with my walker, I was released from the hospital after 4 days. Luckily, I was able to go back to Tuscaloosa and be showered with love and support as I recovered at my condo and waited for the initial swelling to go down. This break was meant for the swelling to go down so I could go into surgery on the following Monday. On Monday the 15th, I underwent a 6+ hour surgery that placed multiple screws, pins, and plates in my face to heal the fractures and eventually get me back to looking β€œnormal”. I also have my mouth β€œwired” shut to heal my jaw bones for at least 4 weeks as of right now (2 weeks left to go from today!). After this surgery, I spent a week in the hospital until I was eventually released and we drove back to Ohio. As for right now, I am recovering at home and managing the pain as it comes to me and have my first check up tomorrow!
