Death teaches us how to live, is our closest companion, carries a stigma, and is inherent upon your arrival.

It is heavy.
It is transition.
It is transformation.
It is a reminder.
It is both an ending & a beginning.

Sometimes death comes with tears. Sometimes it comes with a shovel, a tarp, a molotov cocktail & your best friend. 😏

And most of the time, what needs to die isn’t a person at all.

This rite was held for the death of abuse—emotional, physical, spiritual, verbal & financial.
The death of neglect.
The death of disrespect.
The death of accepting what should never have been acceptable.

A proper burial for the shit we are no longer willing to carry.

Living is where the light pierces darkness, and this is where the remembering is embodied.

And when you finally find yourself standing in it, there can be grief & joy at the very same time.

So we dressed for the occasion.
We named it Earl.
We brought a shovel.
We handled business.
We buried that shit.

Goodbye, Earl ✌️⚰️ Not everything is about you.

Longest caption in the world but I am so SO thankful to this team that has helped me put this banger of a song together. @bigpapicarter @gabe.schneider42 @phurious.leawa @smokeylonely and the Mr.Z. Huge, huge team effort. This has been the one of the hardest years of my life and to bear music as the fruit is a sweet gift.

To watch the city I care for discard its own people. To feel discarded myself. I have looked death in the face this year enough to feel numb. Music got that shit moving and wound it into something beautiful, I think.

My happy place is among the flowers, in the garden, with dirt under my fingernails—surrounded by silence, pondering all the things in life.

I’ve wanted to plant my garden for over a year & it’s finally coming to fruition.

The black swallowtail on the newly planted Ironwood took the cake for me.

When not in my garden these past weeks I enjoyed lots of auxiliary garden moments with friends.
