Hard to pin down what 2025 was, but it was full of friends and family. It was a year of letting y’all see the hot girl behind the glasses. A year I let the veil between personal and professional slip thanks to the encouragement of my dear @olu.seye 💞. It brought tremendous change; moving my whole life to SF, stepping into new challenges in my academic career, growing into a life beyond art, etc. What’s next?

Thank you to everyone who showed up and showed out for the opening of BAY AREA THEN and MAKIBAKA: A Living Legacy at @ybca ! 💥✨

Gratitude overflowing for the brilliant artists who infused our spaces with so much joy, urgency, and beauty—and to the creative community that continues to choose togetherness in the face of challenge.

Deep thanks to the incredible @ybca team for rising to the moment with heart and hustle, and to Eungie Joo, Tricia Lagaso Goldberg, and @somapilipinas for curating and collaborating on two unforgettable exhibitions.

This is just the beginning.💥💫

As you ground yourself in the new year and a renewed perspective, immerse yourself in worlds created by 30 Bay Area artists spanning creative disciplines.

Experience the collapse of time and place, bringing us closer to our personal and collective ancestry as a site for healing and regeneration. Honor intimacy—connections with oneself, friends, and family. Investigate the Bay Area’s built and natural landscapes as a means to interrogate and reflect upon notions of infrastructure, industry, and interconnectedness.

Explore the notion of convening as a creative discipline through ‘BAN9’ workshops, artist talks, activations, performances, ceremonies, communal meals, film screenings, public art, and much more.

Through May 5, 2024 @ybca

To commemorate the one-year anniversary of the WOMAN LIFE FREEDOM civil rights movement led by Iranian women, a large-scale public art illumination by ArtRise Collective—in collaboration with Mozaik Philanthropy—will be projected on Yerba Buena Center For the Arts’ 701 Mission Plaza exterior façade.

The ‘Woman Life Freedom: ArtRise Collective Public Art Intervention’ features 30 artworks by anonymous international artists created during the first 90 days of this women-led revolution, inspired by the central message of the ongoing protests in Iran.

Running nightly beginning September 16—the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s murder—the project will continue through September 23, culminating with Diaspora Arts Connection’s ‘Let Her Sing: A Celebration of Female Voices,’ an event dedicated to fostering support for the female voice, banned and suppressed in parts of the world even today.

The @artrisecollective projection is made possible through the generous support of @mozaikphilanthropy and @ybca Special thanks to @art2powernow @rocktherights @shivabalaghi @diaspora.arts.connection @nazykaviani @_my_knee_ @bella.bitmap @dtim22 @osoovegh @martinjaystrickland for standing in solidarity with this moment. #womanlifefreedom #mahsaamini #artasactivism
