During a connect with a retail brand last month, I was honest when it came to how frequently I ‘shop’ for myself…as in add to cart, purchase, make a transaction…which is not very often these days. Had that question came up in 2006, it would have been at least 3 times a week [ a new going out top, anyone? ] Every retailer I have worked for, I’ve done my due diligence but over the past few years, I have streamlined my wardrobe…invested in fits that work for me…and also lean into secondhand. But! Just because I’m not swiping my card, doesn’t mean I’m not invested in retail spaces and the experience that comes with them. 9/10 I’m entering a store because of the presentation & space it is in; the architecture, the materials, the furnishings, the scent, the visual merchandising…the hospitality! Flagship to PopUp, it’s the opportunity for true manifestation of the brand and some just do it better than others.

New on the Journal ELIT Office reframes the contemporary workplace as a living system, built to support both everyday focus and occasional intensity. Conceived by DualSpace Studio (@dualspacestudio ) as a two-floor, vertically layered environment with mezzanines, the project operates like a compact campus: an interconnected setting for work, training, events, and cultural exchange. At the heart of the concept is adaptability, with space planned to evolve alongside shifting teams, activities, and social patterns. A central design challenge lay in maintaining legibility while enabling constant change. With multiple levels and a broad program mix, the interior needed to remain easy to navigate and understand, even as zones flex between quiet work and large gatherings. DualSpace addressed this by organizing the office around a connective circulation spine that links key destinations and creates a continuous thread across floors. This structured movement path supports clarity, while adjacent areas are allowed to expand, contract, and reconfigure as needs shift.
