I was just visiting about this exact thing a couple nights ago with Tricia Aldridge, Amy Schimke, and Brett Borkowski as we were working to solve the world's problems real quick....next up, solving World Hunger 🥖and Peace On Earth ✌️ 🌎 ....

A bit of "Cow Talk" from our Rodeo Zone interview during #RodeoRapidCity a couple months ago.

All fitting topics as we're in the middle of calving here at the ranch right now, and preparing for the grazing season.

😬 PRESSURE = BAD ? 😬
Often times, the word "PRESSURE" gets a bad reputation when it involves horses, horsemanship, livestock, Life, etc.

At my events, when I demonstrate the "BUMP THE LEG" drill, creating draw, incentivizing commitment, testing for a "false commitment", etc. I will talk in length about how I perceive pressure.

From Day 1 my goal is to do a 180° flip of the horse's perception of pressure, and what it means, especially when it comes to their daily work, and changing their natural response to general "pressure".

Like all things, including in our own lives, not all pressure is bad. Pressure doesn't have to be painful, mean discomfort, or fear. It can simply be a motivator, and an incentivizer... no different than a teacher snapping her fingers to get the attention of the class.

Here, "PJ" is helping to demonstrate and test for a "true commitment" or a "false commitment". How can you tell? If I stand head on, and apply pressure, does my horse disconnect and/or retreat, or does my horse become even MORE committed, more dialed in, and more animated in their efforts to show that they "came to play". 🫡

There's much more to discuss, but that's the Clif Notes 📝 🙂
