A few years ago when I was in Rome with my bestie Sofire and after we almost got robbed by fake police (a long story, the moral being don’t wear fancy jewelry carrying a big map with tourist vibes) I went shopping for ancient Italian coins in a dark dusty shop full of mysterious artefacts. The stylised face of a woman in blackened silver peered at me from a shelf in the gloom and I’ve still got that coin today as something I treasure.

Coins in jewelry is nothing new, having been worn in Egypt, Greece and Rome to celebrate mythological figures and the gods for thousands of years. You could literally wear your money in an eloquent display of power at a time when gemstones were harder to acquire. They were sometimes love tokens, souvenirs of distant travels or talismans but they were always historical treasures which were highly collectible.

So it was a pleasure this week to drop in to see @dubini_official and try on this bronze Emperor coin amazonite gold ring, handmade in Rome. Founded in 2014 in homage to her Roman ancestors, Benedetta its founder is an enthusiastic numismatist and fellow geek combining her love of coins with her talent for jewelry. I always have an outrageously good time when in Rome and this ring took me back.
