After 25 years in Edgartown, it’s hard to say goodbye to the Boneyard.

Small businesses like this are what give our town its character, its community and its heart. And this summer has been an important reminder that we can’t take them for granted. Supporting local isn’t just about where we shop, it’s about what we want our town to look and feel like for years to come.

While we’re sad to see this chapter come to a close, we’re happy to know Jamie and Annette aren’t going far. They’ll be bringing @dune.mv , their men’s shop, into the Boneyard space …a new chapter in a very familiar spot.

Thank you for 25 years, Boneyard. You will be missed. 🤍

Chappy Charters — Captain Jack will take your group for a beautiful cruise through Edgartown harbor, this was a highlight for us last summer 🛥️ @chappycharters

The Carnegie — @vineyardpreservation heritage center includes incredible information about the island’s rich history and so many unique exhibits ⚓️

All of these things are walking distance from a stay at the Edgartown Inn, making it the perfect base for a stay that supports local island makers, business owners, and farms on Martha’s Vineyard 🫶🏼

This week I was reminded by my friend Thomas of the concept of “Misogi”.

Misogi (禊) a Shinto purification ritual where you stand beneath a waterfall until you are cleansed. Cold water, relentless pressure, the body brought to its limit so the spirit can be reset.

In modern life, it has been adapted into something a little more accessible : ONCE A YEAR DO ONE THING THAT HAS A 50% CHANCE OF BREAKING YOU

Something that genuinely, reasonably might not work. Something where failure is not just possible but likely. Something that, whether you make it or not, you do not come out the other side the same person.

Do not announce it. Do not boast about it for an audience. Do it for transformation not validation.

Running, for me, was never about prs or Strava or races and mileage that earns you credibility in race forums. It was about what running did to me. Anxiety it quieted. Clarity it gave. The version of myself I was able to access somewhere several miles into a run, that I could not access any other way.

Last year I committed to running 1000 miles by the end of the year. Only issue was that when I set this internal goal it was May and I was not even at 100 for 2025…

When I committed to that # I committed before I was sure I could do it. I was thinking about Misogi and a whole lot more. I was thinking about proving something to myself. I was thinking about the person I wanted to be for my family. I was thinking that somewhere feeling lost there was the person I was supposed to become.

December 31 I was at 999 miles

Misogi works because the difficulty is the point. Not suffering for suffering’s sake. That is just ego in pain. This challenge reveals you to yourself. It strips away the story you have been telling about who you are and what you are capable of, and leaves you with something truer.

Running 900+ miles in less than 8 months taught me I was capable of more than I thought. The task taught me that the practice itself; showing up, day after day, one step at a time was the transformation.

A single step can set massive transformation into motion —> 1000 miles a year is now the standard.
