POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hard to believe, but five years ago today, the dust settled and construction was officially complete on @southerngrooves. Time flies, but the feeling of walking in here never gets old. To everyone who lent a hand, held a hammer, shared expertise, has recorded here (or even thought it) - thank you!

🤔 What makes the “right” recording studio? 🎚️✨

The vibe, the atmosphere, and the people behind the music. It’s the collaboration between artists and engineers--along with the intentional angles, gear, and world-class acoustic design by @durr.steve Designs that shape the sound.

Today’s session:
🎤 Artist — Marcus Woods
🎶 Track — “Bad Habits”

It’s all part of what makes GFM the “right” studio, right here in @downtownbluesprings. 💫

Why dinner at Rolf always sounds good.
When we remodeled the dining room in 2020, the goal was twofold: reduce ambient noise in the restaurant and improve overall sound quality.
The system runs on two pairs of Klipsch Heresy I speakers, each upgraded with new crossovers, paired with two self-powered subwoofers hidden above the wood ceiling.
Amplification comes from a solid-state McIntosh amp from the 1970s, owned solely by Steve Durr — the sound engineer who installed the system — alongside a McIntosh C-50 preamp that PK picked up while cooking a guest event in Portland, Oregon in 2019.

Thanks to Josh Rhinehart for the portrait🙌! This was just after I completely finished building out @fingersoundstudios so I was (am) really proud of what it’s become. Check out the page for more pics of the space ✨. It’s a pleasure to work and record in an exceptional sounding 3 rooms, thanks to Steve Durr and Xan Gabriel’s acoustic design, and Mariellas from Nelson Jones Interiors / @kravitz_design . If you want to book some time in here, let’s talk⚡️

More Leopard Room. See those green and black corner traps? There’s a lot going on behind that fabric…custom acoustic design by Steve Durr with some brilliant suggestions from @alexmaygabriel , and custom built in Asheville by @reevesclay . 1976 Blue Sparkle ‘stop sign badge’ Gretsch kit…the definitive studio drum sound of the 70’s ⚡️🥁 , as well as a fav of John McEntire’s with Tortoise.
