With the Sacramento show coming up tomorrow I wanted revisit my early years I spent there. These are some images from the very first Tycho shows, all in Sacramento between 2001 and 2006.

The first shows were with a collective of artists, “Command Collective” — Chachi Jones, Dusty Brown, Tha Fruitbat, Park Avenue and Faster Faster. Dusty Brown was a huge inspiration for me (he will be playing the show tomorrow night with his band “Kris &Dusty”). I met him at one of his shows when I was working on The Science of Patterns. I learned so much about music and live performance from him and we became lifelong friends. A few years later he introduced me to his cousin Zac Brown, who ended up being my writing partner. Zac and I built the modern iteration of Tycho, developing the band and live show together. Slide 14 was my first show with Zac in 2006, me on synths and Zac on guitar playing the basement of The Old Spaghetti Factory. Sadly I have lost the one picture of that show I had.

Slide 17 is from the Sunrise Projector release show, I believe slide 13 is from the same show. Slide 5 is from one of the Espresso Metro shows. Slide 11 was our first road gig at DNA Lounge in SF. Slide 9 was from the second Tycho show ever at a rave called Empire Red. 10 is my workspace from around the time I was making Sunrise Projector ~2003. Slide 1 is my first “press shot” that I put on the website. Was around 25 when most of these were taken.

I’ve included A Walk as the song here because it was the last song I wrote while living in Sacramento before moving to San Francisco in 2006.

So fun revisiting these, Sacramento was a special time and place in the early 2000’s. It’s grown so much and it’s still such a wonderful place, I feel fortunate to have spent these formative years being part of the art community there. Feel really fortunate whenever I get to return for a show, particularly tomorrow night where we’ll be celebrating the opening of Sacramento’s newest venue: Channel 24. Zac’s wife @lizlilesbrown was instrumental in making this venue possible and getting it opened so it really feels like a special moment for all of us. I hope you’ll join in the celebration 🪩❤️🙏
