Thinking Through Tapestry is a juried exhibition featuring work that celebrates, explores, and builds upon specialized techniques often associated with tapestry. Thinking Through Tapestry invites artists to submit work exploring discontinuous weft-faced woven processes rooted in tapestry techniques, such as wedge weave, pulled tapestry, the use of hachures, or other structures, including the H.V. (Handarbetets Vänner) technique, also known as the Theo Moorman technique. The exhibition seeks to highlight work illustrating the close relationship between tapestry weaving*, drawing, painting, and sculpture. Experimentation and inclusion of additional materials (such as clay, steel, or wood) are encouraged and welcome; however, the majority of the submitted work must incorporate mostly handwoven work. Jurors: Emily Silver and Erin M. Riley

Opening: May 31, 2026 1-4 pm
Exhibition Dates: May 30-June 28
Evanston Art Center, Evanston, IL.

“The Joy of Art” Episode 2: One of the joys of art is making things with your own two hands. Explore the world of fiber arts with us as we take a glimpse into Vicky Nolan’s beginning sewing class and David Van Buskirk’s weaving class. If you ever wanted to try felting, making your own corset, or hat making, these are just a few of the things that you can learn here at ASLD.

Summer has arrived in Cle and the Digital Weaving Lab is HOT!!! Our residents have been making the most of the these last few weeks and all of their interviews can be found on our blog.

Friendly reminder that the next deadline for DWL AIR is JUNE 15th for residencies occurring Jan-June 2025. Link in our bio to learn more + apply.

Huge shoutouts to:
Nomi Dale Kleinman (@nomidale)
David van Buskirk (@dvbart_design)
Monica Mohnot (@monica.mohnot)
Kira Dominguez Hultgren (@kiradominguezhultgren)
Felicia Francine Dean & Benjamin Sechrest (@felicia_francine)

No surprise here but y’all came ready to WEAVE and you did just that!

Also want to point out that Nomi & David are longtime friends and applied for the residency independent of one another only to end up here at the same time—you never know who you will run into at Praxis and that’s why we love our community!!! ❤️
