Working with kids is similar to composing a master piece of music. It takes time to craft the perfect structure, lesson plan and to design the right tempo/flow of class/piece. Today i was able to stop in at @gym.1801 to watch the Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program class taught by Coach @camila.estradaa and coach @dvn.bjj to do a check-in, and it was truly beautiful to see how far the program has come from when we began it, less than a year ago. It's a true passion for me to grow the awareness of the positive impact and benefits that martial arts training does for the youth & teens. (All ages really)
In addition to my own gym @fit2defendacademy
I'm on a mission to spread the word on other great youth and teens programs, that are also make a difference in our community through leadership and character development.

The next step for the Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program @gym.1801 and @serafinbjj is to spread the word about the offering of this program @gym.1801 as many people don't realize that it's offered there.
The program is for ages 7-14 years old.

What a special night winning the rematch to capture the @jeffcurraninvitational Middleweight championship in front of many of my family, friends, and students. Even more special my son got to watch me compete for the first time ever in person and got to jump on the stage to celebrate with me. That’s a moment I’ll never forget. Thanks so much to @bigfrogbjj and his team on an amazing event, and to everyone who helped me train and cheered me on. #serafinbjj #gym1801

Rebranding my account to represent myself as the athlete I want to be 🐉🦥

Having gotten off insta for several weeks has allowed me to really think without any outside influence or expectations on who I should be in the sport of jiu jitsu

Within the last year I’ve improved beyond what I thought was possible. I committed to the sport right before I started medical school because I needed an outlet that I was passionate about and what started as having fun has become an obsession. When I stepped foot into @fit2defendacademy I was so excited to get back into combat sports, but I entered a new home without even knowing it. At my very first promotion event in 2023, I met @serafinbjj and received the coveted first stripe on my white belt.

It’s been a blur since then, as I keep getting choked out and submitted… it all blends into one memory. But I refuse to stop getting back up and scrapping again.

I also refuse to let any negativity or malefaction bleed into my commitment to the sport or the community that has been there for me and helped me through some of the hardest times of my life. I’ve been informed of too many gyms accepting environments and behaviors I will never tolerate. As much as I’ve enjoyed cross training all over the Chicagoland area, I’m making my position very clear that basic humanity is nonnegotiable. I’m stepping back from being so open because in the end I have to protect myself and my people. I’ve worked too hard to not continue fighting for my MD degree or the endless pursuit of jiu jitsu knowledge.

I will still be cross training at popular open mats but not alone ever again.

I began with my Fit/Serafin crew and I will continue being loyal to the humans that have shown me their pure hearts and kind souls. Including the crew at @picapaujiujitsu who I immediately connected with on a whole different level. I won’t speak further on anything or anyone outside my people. I fully believe everyone knows what they are doing, if you feel in any way that I’m implying anything that speaks to your conscience.

Here to be a champion for the game of life, chase the highest quality jiujitsu, train hard, and be kind 🤙🏽

On Friday night @gym.1801 hosted @chrismwojcik for a CLA leg lock seminar. We packed the place with almost 60 people and everyone got some new strategies on improving their leg lock game. Chris is on the cutting edge of the grappling world and I can’t be prouder of the coach he has become. Train with him if you have the chance.
