WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ARCHITECTURE MEETS ART?

Find out THIS SUNDAY.

Blueprints & Brushstrokes II returns to Sandlot Uptown for an evening where architecture, art, culture, music, and community collide.

This year, we’re bringing together 24 local artists, 12 architectural firms + student designers for an immersive celebration of the ways art and architecture can tell stories, explore identity, and connect us to place.

But this is more than an art event. Blueprints & Brushstrokes is a fundraiser.

Proceeds support DCNOMA’s ARE Scholarship Fund, helping our members and future architects with the cost of pursuing architectural licensure.

So when you buy a ticket, you’re not just coming to an event. You’re investing in someone’s journey toward becoming a licensed architect.

And of course, there’ll be great music, great food, drinks, art, and plenty of time to connect. @yowillofficial @takomastationwingery

THIS SUNDAY — September 13
5:00–9:00 PM
Sandlot Uptown (Howard) @sandlotuptown
1900 7th Street NW, Washington, DC

Get your tickets now→ Link in our bio!

Come see the work. Come meet the artists and architects. Come support DCNOMA and our future licensed architects. See you Sunday.

🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | KENNETH GRAVES + DWAYNE ALISTAIR

What happens when art gives form to both what we see and what we feel?

Our next Artist Spotlight features Kenneth Graves and Dwayne Alistair, two artists whose practices explore identity, heritage, emotion, and the ways art can shape how we understand ourselves and the world around us.

Kenneth Graves is a DMV-based visual artist whose striking realism explores identity, culture, and emotional depth. Through bold contrasts and expressive detail, Kenneth captures the quiet strength and complexity of his subjects, creating work that helps viewers connect with the experiences and struggles reflected within them.

Dwayne Alistair is an abstract expressionist whose work uses abstraction as a gateway to the subconscious. His paintings explore passion, identity, introspection, and the organized chaos of life, often balancing expressive movement with structure inspired by architecture and communal spaces.

Together, their practices demonstrate two distinct approaches to exploring the human experience—one through recognizable figures and lived stories, the other through abstraction, emotion, and the subconscious.

We’re excited to bring their work to Blueprints & Brushstrokes II, where architecture and art come together to explore how different forms of expression can transform both the spaces we inhabit and the way we experience them.

🎨🏛️ 22 ARTISTS. 12 ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTS. ONE NIGHT TO REIMAGINE WHAT AN ART EXHIBITION CAN BE.

This #FineArtFriday, we’re officially introducing the artists of BLUEPRINTS & BRUSHSTROKES II. 🔥

Today, we walked through @sandlotuptown with our artists, floor plans in hand, ideas already moving, and one thing became clear:

September 13 is going to be DIFFERENT.

Presented by @districtnoma, with support by @pgahc & with @artbaeonline serving as Creative Producer, Blueprints & Brushstrokes II pairs contemporary artists with leading architects and emerging designers to transform real architectural projects into immersive artistic experiences.

Not simply artwork on walls.

Art + architecture + storytelling + community, built together. 🏗️🎨✨

Huge thank you to @districtnoma and @teethearchitect85 for trusting Artbae with the creative production and artist curation, and creating a platform for artists to collaborate directly with some of the region’s brilliant architectural minds.

Special shoutout to @alexmanuelcenteno for coordinating the architectural connections, renderings, floor plans, and helping our artists imagine what’s possible 🙌🏾

#LifeOfAWorkingActor SO I BOOKED ANOTHER MOVIE‼️🎥 It’s called @ThePigPathFilm directed by @brianlandowskipants 🎬 It’s based in the 90’s & I play the one of the lead character’s mama named Barbara Jackson! We shot it in Richmond Virginia! #Actors have you ever got that special feeling on a set that there’s a special wind behind the project & something really special & magical is coming together⁉️✨ Well that’s the feel I have in my gut! I’m apart of a great cast curated by @annechapmancasting & @carlyahough 🎭 Everyone brought their A-game! Being that our director is also an actor, he gave us the freedom to really play plus give input & we loved that! Our two teen leads @itstyrik_johnson (who I play his Mom) & @aidenanderson1111 were really putting in that work which had me so excited! I worked with numerous great #actors like @dwaynealistair #BarryRatcliffe @jerazya @latishanharrison @waterwendycarter #RobertRayAlkire I can’t wait for you all to see this! PLEASE FOLLOW @THEPIGPATHFILM page as updates continue!

🐦‍🔥Being in community with all the people that sustain our purpose is my favorite.

From the scholars (the youth) who guide our work forward, to the philanthropists that aid in operationalizing the vision, to the families that hold me accountable, to the board members that provide sound strategy for our growth, to my family who hold / support / protect me, to my Heavenly Father who reminds me whose I am, and to everyone in between - I am thankful. It is because all of you that Phoenix International is still here and I pray will continue to change lives and community for good for generations to come.

This year, we graduate our first 3-year middle school class, our last group of founding scholars. We celebrated this momentous occasion at The Embers of Excellence Soirée and Awards. As we approach expansion, we must raise funds. We need to get to $15K before Sunday. Please donate today. Any amount helps and conveys to other philanthropists that the community puts their money where their mouth is - we’re expanding yall (our building and our grades served). We can’t do this without you. Donation link is in my bio.

Thank you. If you weren’t able to attend, we plan to make this celebration annual and I hope to see you at the next one.

Congratulations to our 2026 Inaugural Class of Honorees:

Embers of Excellence Headline Honoree - Grammy Award Winning Father-Daughter Duo, @fyutch & @auravsings

Excellence in the Arts - Ms. Diane Rausch of the @charlescountyartsmd

Educator of the Year - Mr. @just_nate_tate, Social Studies Teacher @pisota_ccps

Special Recognition - Ms. Christina Miller and Mr. Richard Conley of Charles County Public Schools

Scholars of the Year (2 per grade level) -
Vanessa M. • Avianna V. • Imani P. • Courtney V. • Carleen T. • Travis L.

Perhaps my favorite moment of The Embers was watching my daughter, @flyyywithphoenix, read and present the headlining award to @auravsings. These two young ladies represent the very fabric of the next generation of creative ambassadors and to say I’m proud of them both is an understatement. 🥲
