A new month is here and the Rocking S Art Ranch community is excited to welcome creative person, writer, journalist, editor Yezmin Villarreal! Bio Yezmin Villarreal is the founder and editor-in-chief of Dyke Queen. They began their career as a culture journalist, writing about art, music, and queer life for publications including L.A. Weekly, BOMB Magazine, The Los Angeles Times, and others. After several years documenting queer stories in media—as an editor at The Advocate and PRIDE—she turned toward independent publishing, ultimately launching the first issue of Dyke Queen in 2017 with the support of the Hello Mr. Issues Residency. Dyke Queen has been highlighted by Vogue’s Them as a magazine that “provide[s] a great range, a wider pool, and vaster net of representation for all different kinds of queerdom.” Based in Phoenix, Villarreal is also the founder of Phoenix Queer Hoopers, an LGBTQ+ community basketball group.
