Dylan is off to 10th grade! How is it even possible? My heart still wants to protect him like he’s my tiny baby but, with 2 first day of school pictures left, a drivers license, graduation, and HIS dreams and future ahead I know I have to have faith in him as he maneuvers these last few high school years. I love you, I am beyond proud, and I have all the faith in YOU! I hope you have the best year!

Curved Runs = Increase in Athleticism 📈🔥

Maintaining speed on a curve requires efficient energy transfer and technique under asymmetrical forces, which translates to better performance in high-pressure game situations where athletes must change direction without slowing down ✅

Curved sprints enhance sport-specific skills, build strength and stability, and prepare athletes for the dynamic, multidirectional demands of competition. They’re a critical tool for improving performance and reducing injury risk ✅

Athletes should be able to get in and out of transitions without taking wasted / extra steps while keeping their hips low without rising up ✅

I don’t care how fast you are! If you can’t stop & go / change direction without getting stuck in the mud or taking extra / wasted steps then you’ll never reach your athletic potential‼️

At KTS we work on all aspects of “Speed” 🔥

Deceleration and change of direction are critical skills for athletes, and incorporating them into training is essential for several reasons:

1. Injury Prevention ✅

Sudden stops or sharp turns are common moments when sports injuries occur, such as sprained ankles or strained knees. Training for deceleration teaches athletes how to slow down or stop efficiently, reducing the stress on joints, muscles, and ligaments. Similarly, change of direction drills strengthen the body’s ability to handle lateral movements, which often lead to injuries if unprepared. By mastering these skills, athletes lower their risk of harm during competition.

2. Improved Agility and Control ✅

Many sports require athletes to adjust their speed and direction quickly. Deceleration allows them to slow down with precision, maintaining control over their body. Meanwhile, change of direction enhances their ability to pivot or dodge swiftly, responding to opponents or game situations. Together, these abilities boost agility, making athletes more effective on the field or court.

3. Enhanced Performance ✅

The ability to decelerate efficiently and change direction quickly can be a game-changer. For instance, a soccer player might decelerate to evade a defender, then shift direction to find open space. Training these movements builds muscle memory and coordination, enabling athletes to execute them instinctively and accurately during high-pressure moments, ultimately improving their competitive edge.

4. Better Proprioception and Balance ✅

Working on deceleration and change of direction improves proprioception—the body’s sense of its position in space. This is vital for maintaining balance during dynamic actions like cutting, pivoting, or landing. Athletes who train these skills can stay composed and in control, even in unpredictable scenarios, enhancing their overall athleticism.

5. Meeting Sport Specific Demands ✅

Most sports require frequent shifts in speed & direction. Training in deceleration and COD ensures athletes are ready for these movements.
