There is something about Italian life that is difficult to explain until you’ve lived inside it for a while.

It’s in the old men who sit together every afternoon, the neighbors who call to each other from their windows, the women tending to plants from balconies, the strangers who somehow become part of the scenery of your everyday life.

It’s a life that seems to leave more room for people. More room to talk, to linger, to argue, to laugh, to do absolutely nothing. A reminder that not everything has to be rushed toward the next thing.

I think that’s what I’ve fallen in love with most — not the Italy you see in postcards, but the Italy that exists quietly between them. In the worn buildings, the crooked balconies, the fountains, the cats, the old men on benches, and the little sayings passed down from one generation to the next.

This way of living has become one of the greatest inspirations behind Serpenti — the idea that beauty can be found in the everyday, that things become more meaningful with age, and that there is something romantic about a life that isn’t trying so hard to be perfect.
