Its been 10 years since my brother @bconner24 took over Warde baseball and I started running the offseason programming for him. 17.3 wins a year. 2 LL state titles and 3 FCIAC titles.
I’m proud of all of it, but the wins were never the whole story. The story is in this picture. Most of these seniors, I’ve coached since they were 8 and 9 years old. Same with the juniors, sophomores and freshman. I’ve watched them grow from little boys with big baseball dreams into young men standing on the edge of the next chapter of their lives.
A lot has changed in 10 years. People see a nationally recognized baseball town now. They see the culture, toughness, pride, brotherhood, and work. They see the #3 Little League team in the WORLD.
What they don’t always see is what it took to build it. Because it wasn’t that long ago that Warde and Fairfield National baseball were looked at much differently, but these boys and these families chose to build something…They chose loyalty, toughness, development, and relationships. They helped continue to turn this side of town into real baseball soil just like the classes of kids who came before them. This picture is a decade of winter nights, rides to practice, moms and dads sacrificing, laughs, tears, losses, dogpiles, and love.
To these seniors, my Nationals, my Dawgs…I love you. Not for how hard you throw (obviously 😂) or how many hits you get, but because I know your hearts and your stories.
👉🏻You helped build a culture that 7 and 8 year old boys now get to dream inside of. 👈🏻
Read that sentence again because there is something truly magical about it.
So no matter what happens this season, nothing can take away what you built or the way I care about you. The little boys I watched grow up are gone. The men are here. And I could not be more proud. Good luck fellas. 🫡
