Up next! BALTIMORE area people, please join Dylan Aguayo and Douglas Buchanan as they perform the Maryland and tenor premiere of my composition "Witch of November in the White City" as part of the Recital and Evensong Commemorating Indigenous Peoples Day at St. David's Church on October 11th.

Commissioned by Chicago Fringe Opera for their "Chicago Currents: Celebrating Chicago's Waterways," this work has been performed by CFO, at Windham Philharmonic in Brattleboro, Vermont, and at the Good Medicine Indigenous Music Festival in Houston. Truly more of an operatic style scena than a song, it celebrates the importance of water throughout the Chicago area in many different forms, as well as the respect of water by Chicago area tribes. I wrote the text as well as the music, and sang the premiere and subsequent performances. It is scored for voice, piano, and violin.

Toi toi toi, Dylan and Douglas! Mvto for sharing this work to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day!

I had such an incredible time this past week in Wilmington, Delaware being reunited with old friends and meeting new ones!!
I was so blessed to be surrounded by so much love this week, especially in the company of @jerodtate, @rebecca_m_hass, @tianhui_ng, @michael.sakir, @susrellim, and, of course, @nick_kate_mom ❤️ I’m so inspired by these incredible people and I am so fortunate to learn from them and work with them!!

It was an absolute honor to get to perform Loksi’ in “Loksi’ Shaali’” for @operaamerica conference with Wilmington Concert Opera!! I was surrounded by so many incredible artists and musicians whose artistry inspired me in sharing this significant creation story of the Chickasaw people through opera and song. They held a talkback session after the performance and I got to share a bit of how I relate to Loksi’. I find myself so fortunate to be able to learn so many new things about being “out of the forest” through Loksi’s own journey and experiences and I’m forever grateful to be a part of sharing her story and continuing to learn from her 💚

I am so blessed I got to share a beautiful new ᏓᎩᏏ (Dagasi, Turtle) ribbon skirt made by @mortonmarcella, with the fabric and ribbon from Lawley House Antiques and Fabrics, and ᏓᎩᏏ shirt by A&A Athletics! I also got to wear my custom ribbon suit by my Lisa Benge @sodarngood1 as a speaker for the Opening Session of the Opera America Conferwnce!

I couldn’t tag everyone (Instagram tag limit!!) but I wanted to shoutout the fantastic creative team and orchestra!!👏

Thank you to David Salazar and Operawire for the coverage of the new chamber edition and Delaware premiere of "Loksi' Shaali'," which Wilmington Concert Opera will be performing on May 14th and 16th! Save the dates for this amazing and historical Chickasaw language opera by Jerod Impichchaachaaha Tate featuring most of the original principal cast, new Indigenous and local singers, and a fabulous chamber orchestra under the direction of Maestro Tian Hui Ng!

I am beyond thrilled to not just be reprising the role of Ipp'osi', which I originated, but also merging two of my worlds in the best of ways. If you are based on the East Coast or will be attending the Opera America Conference, this is an event not to be missed!
