To all of the people in my life who heard me say, “I can’t, I’ve got a debate tournament this weekend,” this is a small glimpse of what that actually meant.

I was a member of the University of Arkansas’ Speech and Debate Society for 3.5 years of my undergraduate. I joined in order to get over a general fear of public speaking, and left with lifelong friends and a desire to speak my mind. Throughout my debate journey, I accomplished a lot more than I ever thought possible, but what made this adventure truly spectacular is the memories and friends I’ve made along the way (cliche I know, but deal with it).

I am so thankful to everyone on the UARK team, who always knew how to make me feel welcome and cherished. To my many competitors, who were always a delight to debate and learn from. To my duo partners, who put up with my antics and inability to learn my lines. To my TIPDA partners, who were always the better half and were a hoot to debate with. And most importantly, to my coach, whose incredible passion, kindness, and dedication, will continue to serve as a shining example of what I hope to one day achieve.

Woo pig! UARK’s Speech and Debate Society is the best. I am so glad I got to be a part of this team! :)

The worst part about the best things is that they have to end, but the best part about the worst things is that they're not forever

My year couldn't have been as amazing as it was without the friends by my side. The ones who were there with me at my highest, and there for me at my lowest

To the friends moving on to start the next chapter in your lives, I pray you find nothing but blessings and fortune on your path. I'll see you around
