We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Josh Grisetti. Josh and I both grew up in Franklin County, Virginia (he in Boones Mill and I in Rocky Mount). Although we attended the same high school, we didn’t really meet until the year I graduated from college, when we worked together at Mill Mountain Theatre in Roanoke. Years later, we found ourselves together again in a small cast of Grease at Sacramento Music Circus in California. We marveled at the odds of two kids from the same rural Virginia hometown ending up in that cast together on the other side of the country. Josh played Eugene and absolutely stole the show. His talent was undeniable, but he was also incredibly funny, generous, and kind. About ten years ago, when I brought a group of DMR students to New York City for the first time, Josh graciously spent time with them and led a workshop. Many of the young people pictured here have since grown up to become professional actors, study theatre in college, teach, or continue pursuing this work in other ways. I am so grateful that they had the opportunity to learn from him and that we have these photographs from that day (thank you Lori Shinseki). I loved following Josh’s career and hearing his thoughts on theatre, training, and especially the college musical theatre process. I had hoped we might reconnect this year as my own family was navigating that process, but sadly we never got the chance. Sending so much love to Josh’s family, friends, students, colleagues, and everyone whose life was made brighter by his immense talent and kindness. I imagine he and Ms. Gibbons are together now, singing show tunes at the top of their lungs. We will remember him with so much love. -Melissa
