Ferdinando Sarmi was an Italian-born fashion designer who became one of the most refined and sought-after names in American fashion during the second half of the twentieth century. His creations were worn by international celebrities and prominent figures, yet his remarkable story has largely faded from public memory.

Through interviews, photographs, archival documents and rare footage—together with an exclusive fashion show featuring fourteen original Sarmi garments—the documentary brings his work back to life. John Turturro, costume designers Donna Zakowska and Massimo Cantini Parrini, and fashion scholar Eugenia Paulicelli guide us through the rediscovery of a visionary designer who wrote an important, yet often overlooked, chapter in the history of New York and American fashion.

“I don't understand the idea of living with just one person for the rest of my life. How do you make a choice like that? That's like choosing what you're gonna wear in 25 years. If things worked that way, everyone would still be wearing hot pants.”
Sandra Bullock as Sarah Lewis in Force of Nature (1999)

Just returned from an inspiring couple of weeks in NYC, where I worked as a costume PA on a film project with the visionary Donna Zakowska @dzakowska .Observing her approach to costume design was a rare treat and a reminder of the dedication and artistry required to bring characters to life on screen. I’m grateful for the chance to have explored the Garment District and for the wisdom shared by the costume team (@lindseylarissa ) on staying organized and focused.

I know, I know, I’m good at disappearing, but as I’ve told you in the stories, sometimes inspiration comes and goes, and I don’t know how many people still love this series. But I want to give this page another chance, so I’ll post something from time to time to entertain you. Thanks for all the support, I appreciate it! So here’s the first post after a few months (maybe years) 💙 @maiseltv @dzakowska @rachelbrosnahan @primevideo #mrsmaisel #themarvelousmrsmaisel #midgemaisel #fashion #vintage
