I’m not sure I’ll ever feel completely ready to close this chapter, but I’ve realized that I probably never will. In the blink of an eye or a snap of the fingers, just like that I never would have thought I would have prayed my last prayer on the foul line, step into the box one last time, or take off my cleats for the last time. It’s hard to believe that a dream I had at just three years old of making it to the big stages is now slowly becoming a memory.
As I reflect on the journey that brought me here, I think about all the ups and downs along the way. There were moments of frustration, self-doubt, and setbacks that made me question whether I was good enough. More than once, I told myself I wanted to quit. In fact, when I was very young, I did quit because I was afraid of being hit by a pitch. But that fear ended up becoming a record that I broke. Instead of walking away, I chose to work harder.
Softball gave me plenty of challenges like frustration, anger, injuries, and moments of doubt. But it also gave me so much more. It gave me a second family, lifelong friendships, and the opportunity to live out my dream. It revealed a tenacity in me that continues to push me to fight for what I want in life.
Softball was more than just a game. It was my safe place, a space where I could feel free. For a long time, I tried to make softball my identity. Now I understand that softball was never who I was; instead, it became a way to show others who I am and who I strive to be.
Most importantly, softball gave me the opportunity to glorify God. When I look back on every challenge I faced, I thank Him for walking beside me through it all. There were times I didn’t understand why I was going through certain struggles, only to realize later that they were preparing me for what was ahead. Over time, softball taught me to see adversity not as something to fear, but as motivation and proof that I can overcome whatever comes next.
I’m not sure I will ever have enough words to fully express what softball has meant to me. It has shaped my character, strengthened my faith, and played a significant role in making me the person I am today.
