One year of ZOOM OUT. Exactly one year ago, Issue #1 of ZOOM OUT was published. Fast forward to October 2026: - 4 Issues published - 31 featured photographers - 4 guest curators - Federica Natali / @ciambi.nataly joined ZOOM OUT as Deputy Editor - Readers from 38 countries - Almost 1K Instagram followers - Our first joint open call with @carlottagallery - Issue #5 on the way (going out 15/11) But ZOOM OUT has always been about more than numbers. Photography has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. From joining Newcastle University Photography Society and later serving as Media Officer, to studying at the British Academy of Photography, completing a photography internship, organising a fundraising photography exhibition for Every Day Care for Africa (EDCA), and working at Canon EMEA, a camera brand I’d admired since childhood, my relationship with photography has evolved over the years. Yet, at one point, I was experiencing a creative block and I felt disconnected from it. ZOOM OUT brought me back to that love, while also growing out of my frustration with how opportunities for photographers to be featured were handled in the creative industry. Today, it’s a community for photographers, a space to share visual stories, ideas and to grow together. It’s been a beautiful journey. Between a full-time job, ZOOM OUT, loved ones, travel, other hobbies, sport and downtime, I often have more ideas than capacity. However, along the way, I’ve learned to embrace the process, not just the final product, give myself credit for building something pretty cool, and to zoom out (pun intended) and to take the full picture in. That shift in perspective keeps me going. + I have the talented @ciambi.nataly who supports me along the way! Each issue has been an opportunity to learn, grow and bring people together through a shared love of photography. Thank you to every photographer, guest curator, contributor, reader and supporter who has been part of our first year. One year of redefining the lens through community, not competition. I HOSTED MY OWN SONY EVENT. WTF ♥️ Okay. The past couple of weeks were pure chaos. I’m finally more or less recovered, so it’s time to look back. Last Thursday I hosted my first Sony event at Boldhouse. My own event. And it threw me straight back to last year at Strade with my dad, when we had zero reception for three hours and actually talked while we were waiting for the riders. I remember thinking it, and I remember saying it to my dad: I was done with photography. My clients were great, genuinely, but I’d lost my creativity and my fun for a while. Fast forward to now: I’m hosting my own Sony event, and a day later I’m in Italy for Strade with MAAP. Everything ahead looks insanely cool. Things are going really well, maybe too well, and it keeps dragging me back to last year. Because what’s happening right now is, cliché or not, literally a childhood dream. About the event: in short, it was exactly how I wanted it. Boldhouse, my second home, a basement packed with ridiculous talent. No corporate nonsense. No stiff presentations. Just people connecting, talking, and going out shooting together. And sorry, but nothing beats the sight of a table filled with Sony toys. Lenses everywhere (300mm, 50–150, 35mm), the newest bodies… We thought people would leave around 6PM. Instead, at 8PM, a full table of strangers was still there, having dinner like old friends. Candles, pizza, Ben Howard playing in the background, talking about the new Sony gear. On Saturday, when I was standing on Piazza del Campo in Italy, I went and sat down and stared into nothing for half an hour. I was so happy it was all over. Really happy that it became 100% what I wanted it to be. This was genuinely f*cking insane. There are a lot of people I need to thank, but one person especially: @marthevanneste. I had a plan in my head, but with me it often stays a plan. She made it 150% real. MERCI MERCI MERCI. ♥️ Thanks to Sony. Thanks to everyone who came. Delighted to share that in exactly one month Issue #3 of ZOOM OUT will be released. This edition, coming out on 15/03/2025, is centred around the theme ‘Your Pocket of the World’. Six international photographers from the UK, Germany, the US, Singapore, Italy, Belgium and Indonesia offer personal perspectives on their countries through their photographs. This issue is particularly special. Not only is it the first time we have brought together such an international group of photographers around a shared theme, it is also the first time guest curators from different countries have collaborated behind the scenes to bring the publication to life.
