I first saw this video about 13 years ago.

Back then, I was driving a BMW 520 E39, and I didn’t even know it was possible to turn a naturally aspirated car into a turbocharged one. The whole idea was completely new to me.

This was the first turbocharged E39 I had ever seen on YouTube. And honestly, it completely changed the way I looked at these cars.

The Hella rear spoiler.
Three-piece AC Schnitzer wheels.
M Sport package.
Pre-facelift front and rear lights.
Black exterior.
Black cloth interior.

Every single detail just worked.

For me, this is what the perfect pre-facelift E39 looks like. No facelift, no unnecessary extras — just a black E39 sitting on three-piece AC Schnitzers, with the right stance and that unmistakable old-school BMW character.

I’ve seen thousands of E39s since then, but this one still holds a special place in my mind.

13 years later, and I still think this might be the most beautiful pre-facelift E39 I’ve ever seen.

Here’s a little story time and official introduction of the E39. I started seriously considering and looking for one early this year but my love for E39 M5 goes all the way back to late 90s. Yes, this car is a childhood dream of mine and my favorite BMW design of all time. As my son is getting bigger, hauling him around for school or errands in the GR86 was getting increasingly inconvenient and impractical. I desperately needed 4 doors but I wasn’t gonna settle for anything boring 🙂 And then the light bulb went off! It was a perfect time to make a childhood dream become true and also make new memories with my son (see the last photo). After a couple of months of search, found this 2001 Lemans Blue with full Caramel leather and only 61k miles in FL. It spent most of its time in CA and TX, and had extensive service records. This interior/exterior color combo is my favorite on E39 and pretty rare to come by so I knew this was the one. They say don’t meet your heroes but my experience so far has been nothing short of incredible. Already done a significant amount of preventative maintenance/refresh with more to come. Will try to keep this as fresh as possible.

When @ctms.motorsports texts you and says “I’ve got something special on the lift, you should swing by”, you listen.
