This was the last sight for a lot of Axis fighters during WW2, especially Mitsubishi Zero pilots… A final look at life while staring back from the kill zone of a P-38 Lightning. Although, the kill zone of a P-38 is anywhere from 1m to 1000m in front of the aircraft, all because of the nose mounted guns. It’s just one of the few things that make this airplane really cool imo.

About the photo, I’ve been trying to make a “vintage style/ recovered” photo for MONTHS now. It’s been a lot of trial and error and before this I was trying to use a photo of the Lancaster as a test bed. Those photo were never made public because I believed they were never up to my standard. Recently, while editing this photo from Abbotsford Airshow, I decided to give it a try again and after 2 hours of editing (and dealing with Adobe Photoshop acting like a little brat) I came up with this. This is still not complete the idea I had in mind, however, it is the best I’ve done so far and I believe it’s up to a standard that I can be happy with. Everything in this photo was done by hand, using non-generative tools on Photoshop. 😉

Red Deer Regional Airshow 2026 — from a different perspective.

Nearly three minutes of aerial cinematography from an incredible weekend at Red Deer Regional Airport.

Captured through authorized drone operations coordinated with the airshow, this project offered a perspective that is rarely available during a live aviation event.

Featuring the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, CF-18 Hornet Tactical Demonstration, Canadian Armed Forces Skyhawks, Melissa Burns and historic warbirds.

A huge thank you to the Red Deer Regional Airshow, Red Deer Regional Airport, the performers and everyone who helped make this possible.

More individual footage from Red Deer is still to come.

I’ve always found the P-38 to be a very interesting aircraft. Being the original “Lightning” and imo, way cooler than the F-35 Lightning, the P-38 remains underrated. Now, historically this is completely wrong but I like to believe that the P-38 was the grandfather to the F-15 Eagle. Think about it, the P-38 was a high performance, long range, multirole fighter-bomber with a weapons arsenal that would terrify anyone fighting it. Does that not just sound like the F-15s description? Both of these aircraft started off as fighters and were adapted to bombing, both have been used for air superiority and interception missions. I’m just being a nerd, I’ve always thought that this airplane isn’t talked about enough and lives in the shadow of the Mustang and the Thunderbolt but that’s just me 🤷‍♂️

And with that, another year of @oregonairshow has been attended! Awesome shows in Hillsboro & McMinnville, however I loved today’s event!

From seeing the @redbullairforce for the first time in 7 years, to seeing @142nd_wing probably the fifth time just this year, it was a super fun time! And you can’t count everyone else out, every performance was awesome 👏

Felt great hearing @airshowluke again, loved having him at both events last year, he’s gotta be my favorite announcer 😂 Can’t wait for next year!!! 🔥

They say legends never die, and these photos certainly depict that! Another highlight from the 2026 Olympic Air Show hosted by the @olympicflightmuseum this past June had to be another one of those rare warbird formations you just don't get to see every day!

Mike Oliver in the @eacmadras / @ericksonairshowcollection TBM-3E Avenger leads a series of formation passes with @rossgranley flying in the @soaringbythesea P-40N-1 Warhawk before splitting up to demo their respective aircraft for some solo passes.

So many recent air shows certainly have been warbird-heavy and it's always a treat to see rare and unusual formations like this!
