Day Four: Blue City Day, Complete!
Today we split into the chambers of the General Assembly (and passed our first law!) We also had the honor of hearing Justice Anita Earls speak on her experience as a Supreme Court Justice and Civil Rights Lawyer. We also learned about the significance of the poppy and heard a recitation of “In Flanders Fields” with Ms Anita Norris.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our community meeting on voting rights. It was a privilege to stand with leaders like Justice Anita Earls, Professor Irving Joyner, and our moderator Dr. Stephanie Moore-Hand.

It is critical everybody has the tools they need to exercise their right to vote this November! Our communities are counting on us to show up.

Grateful to @wakecountyindivisible for inviting @earlsanita to speak with us this morning.

Justice Earls is an accomplished jurist, a powerful voice for justice, and an incredible person. I’m thankful for the opportunity to hear from her and I look forward to working to help get her re-elected to the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Had a great time with the @meckdemwomen last night watching Justice Anita Earls induct the newest board members. Was also great to speak about my candidacy.

Some of the biggest cases the NC Supreme Court recently decided have allowed the legislature to engage in gerrymandering, make it harder to vote, and strip power from the governor. Re-electing @earlsanita this year is the critical next step toward restoring a court majority that will rein in those injustices.

Today is the 60th anniversary of the voting rights act. @earlsanita explains what an equal right to vote should look like.

Let’s take back power so that everyone has an equal right to vote.

Today, Advance North Carolina releases the list of key races and candidates ahead of the March 3, 2026, primary election, who collectively represent an unwavering dedication to our communities and issues.

These candidates include Rep. Alma Adams, representing the 12th Congressional District; Rep. Valerie Foushee, representing the 4th Congressional District; Dr. Raymond Smith, candidate for the 3rd Congressional District; Dr. Kimberly Hardy, candidate for the 7th Congressional District; former Gov. Roy Cooper, running for the U.S. Senate; and North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Anita Earls.

As we commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are reminded of the ongoing role we play in battling against forces that seek to pull us backward. The candidates we are supporting embody the principles and politics of a martyr, which we reflect upon this weekend. Personal gains alone do not equal our collective power.

The increased influence of the ultra-rich on our democracy means elections are up for grabs in North Carolina, especially by groups seeking to disenfranchise Black communities. Voters face a three-way battle against the racist right, national agendas, and voter suppression, seeking to upset gains we've made over a century in our state. It is very clear that they demand our labor but deny our leadership and our right to vote.

We urge voters to take the time to research all the candidates and issues that matter most as we continue to fight to make the dream our reality.

Allow us to introduce you to a new generation of progressives candidates—our first 2026 endorsees! We’ve helped elect fighters for years, and now we’re adding to that list with community organizers like Kristian Carranza and Bobby Nichols, experienced jurists like Anita Earls and Dexter McCoy, moral giants like Rev. Dr. Rodney Sadler Jr, and education advocates like Montserrat Garibay. Across the country, past Way to Lead endorsees are leading the fight against authoritarianism—and with your help, our 2026 endorsees will soon join them.

Head to the link in our bio if you’d like to support any of these candidates—and let us know if there are others running in 2026 who you think we should endorse!
