Title: Deep End
Artist: Liina Leo
Curator: Earthbound Lovers
Duration: 28 Mar ― 8 Apr 2026
Venue: Lou (Helsinki, Finland)
Photography: Inari Sandell

AI Summary: The project explores inner navigation as a liminal passage, where control, perception, and unseen forces shape transformation. It reframes the psyche as a shifting environment, guided by instability, ritual, and the search for orientation beyond fixed identity.

Updated weekly, SHAPE introduces and highlights a variety of current public events and exhibitions throughout the city.

This week’s highlights include one events and three exhibitions:

📍 @mcult.helsinki presents Indexing for Disability Justice on Pleasure – Compensation, Compression & Weighted Blankets, a presentation and discussion by Ren Loren Britton @brittonstudio at Trans Library Helsinki @translibraryhelsinki on 19 May at 5pm. The presentation will discuss Ren’s ongoing artistic index “Indexing for Disability Justice”. This index understands Disability Justice as an orientation that makes space and place for all non-normative bodies and minds trans*crip agency will be centered throughout their presentation.

📅 Curated by @earthboundlovers on view at @lougalleria is ‘Fluids Puzzle’ by Niklas Feinik. The exhibition functions as a virtual game space, where a character has come through one image but failed to enter another, becoming stuck in the gallery space. Time has passed, without moving forward.

📅 At @amoskonst ‘Generation 2026’, The Generation triennial, held for the fourth time brings together 50 artists and collectives to explore identity, belonging, and power structures. They amplify marginalised voices, examine the impact of technology, and use humour and absurdity as a form of resistance, showing a generation that looks at the world with a critical eye and claims its place in it openly and without compromise. See the full programme and read about the artists and collectives included at amosrex.fi.

📅 Opening this week is ‘half time, over time’, the graduation exhibition of @taidekoulumaa ’s third year students, in which 14 artists explore decay, formation, and traces left by time. The exhibition makes visible the ways in which the past, the present and the future haunt us and our surrounding structures. It is a collection of decelerations where the artists, each through their own practice, pause to examine the meanings absorbed into experience, peeling back its layers.

Updated weekly, SHAPE introduces and highlights a variety of current public events and exhibitions throughout the city.

This week’s highlights include four exhibitions:

📅 Opening at @kiasmamuseum is ‘A Dream in Four Colours’ presenting curated selections from the Finnish National Gallery’s collection. The exhibition brings together works by 49 artists. It departs from a single unifying theme, instead inviting visitors to approach art intuitively, without seeking to explain or define it. Meanings shift and shimmer, evoking ineffable experiences that resist explanation and linger beyond words.

📅 On view at @myymala2 is ‘Tightened Narratives — Post-Biological Archive’ by Yang Tian, a multimedia artist working between Beijing and Paris. Tightened Narratives — Post-Biological Archive investigates and presents in the exhibition space artworks which trace an entangled legacy that the pandemic left on bodies, institutions, and material culture. Yang uses diagnostic apparatus and laboratory paraphernalia —centrifuge tubes, antigen kits, ELISA strips—and reframes clinical detritus as archival agents: vessels that store both data and memory.

📅 On view at @lougalleria and curated by @earthboundlovers is ‘Horseback’, a joint exhibition bringing together works by Helmi Nieminen and Eero Yli-Vakkuri. The exhibition explores the role and representation of the horse from two seemingly distinct, yet linked perspectives. Eero Yli-Vakkuri’s previously unpresented documentary work Hoiva ja kuri (Care and Control) follows the lives of police horses between 2016 and 2021. The observational documentary shows how horses working for the police de-escalate conflicts between people. Helmi Nieminen presents a large interactive horse sculpture, sewn from various soft textiles, and with its giant cartoon-like eyes it resembles an enormous plush toy. The audience is welcome to sit beside the work and lean on it while watching Yli-Vakkuri’s film.

📅 @sunnyside.site ‘s exhibition 3.1 presents works by five artists: Freja Sofie Kirk, Jakub Klíma, Petr Klíma, Lucie Sasínová and Lina Lundquist. The exhibition opening is on 26.2 at 18:00.

Whistling, wiggling my ears,
Thinking of something else.
It has so many cellars,
Such eelish delvings!
I am round as an owl,
I see by my own light.
