TODAY is World Environment Day + Pride Month + Absentee Vote= POWER. Today let's celebrate World Environment Day as it also marks the LAST DAY to request your absentee ballot for the June 16 Runoff Election.

This is no coincidence. It’s a powerful alignment about the world, pride, and being anywhere in the world to show! Today highlights "intersectionality". The social issues the LGBTQ+ community face and environmental protection overlap and compound...vote your absentee ballot today to make way for change!

Both movements gained momentum around the same era which was around the late 1960s. This happened during the Stonewall Riots and the rise of modern environmentalism. The original Pride flag includes a green stripe symbolizing nature, and the rainbow is a promise from god!

Some of yall who be so against change could be because there are things about yourself that you have not yet accepted. Give yourself grace, love yourself more, remember to breathe, and if you ever do, just know the ones closest to you probably already knew and their love for you never would change anyway!.....AMAG🇺🇲🤞🏾

“And God said, ‘This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds"

— Genesis 9:12-16 (NIV)

2025 was the year of the snake 🐍. If you felt like I did, and this year tested you in ways you couldn’t imagine - you survived. You’ve shed whatever wasn’t serving you. You’re stronger, wiser, and a new chapter awaits you.

2026 is the year of the horse 🐎, bringing themes of momentum, transformation, freedom, and bold action. It’s a time for progress, with strong associations with vitality, adventure, & economic abundance. We are encouraged to chase our dreams in the coming year, as it will present many “golden opportunities.” I was born in the year of the horse & I’m f*cking ready for a lit year ahead.

Thank you to all who still vibe with this page, all the support & all the friends I’ve made on here. May the year of the horse bring you all you deserve and more.

SATURDAY SHUFFLE: resistance

𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙝𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙚 𝙪𝙨𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙤𝙛?

Rank-ism of some kind, injustice, and usually a plea for change and fairness. A unity is created through melody and information that can help organise and boost the spirits of the oppressed.

Countless examples throughout history like Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come, which became synonymous with the American Civil Rights Movement in the 60s.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s The Message spawned a new social consciousness within the then-emerging art form of Rap. Painting a picture of the endless cycle of despair in New York City neighbourhoods and the prison industrial complex.

This would pave the way for artists like Kendrick Lamar with tracks such as Alright, highlighting many of the same issues over 30 years later in other poor neighbourhoods for people of colour.

The examples I could name are endless, to be honest, but the point I want to make is how important these songs are in times of ripening injustice.

Songs like these have played pivotal roles in mobilizing people, shaping public opinion, and cementing the legacies of civil rights, anti-war, and other cultural movements around the world.

The biggest, most participatory, most sustained social movements involve deep-rooted and emotional culture. That culture is what binds us in the face of resistance. Music is a big part of this.

𝙄𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙘𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩.

Especially in this day and age.

_____________________________________________

• In this world, we live too fast and love too slow. With the world constantly trying to sell us quick shortcuts and cheaper entertainment/art:

Enter Thee Sacred Souls.

• “Why is Thee Sacred Souls’ music so important in this day and age?” - Because music like theirs keeps the soul alive in a world that’s always rushing. it’s honesty and rawness reminds people to feel instead of just consuming, their music evokes a sense of familiar nostalgia and authenticity, reminiscent of 1960s and 70s soul music.

• Weak For Your Love gets me everytime. That slow, aching build? Wow. It’s like watching someone undress and slowly bear the vulnerability to you as you scream for more and scratches a much needed itch missing in music today.

• They aren’t the only bands that are reviving soul either. If you like these or any 60’s or 70’s soul, I’d also recommend The Altons, Durand Jones & The Indications, The Sinseers, Pale Jay, Los Yesterdays and Leon Bridges.

• E and I have curated a little taster playlist for you! I really hope a few of you have been put on to, imho, the best modern soul band of our era.

Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, known for transforming everyday objects and celebrities into iconic works of art.

He used techniques like silkscreen printing to mass-produce images of soup cans, Marilyn Monroe, and other popular culture subjects, challenging traditional ideas of art and consumerism. Warhol’s work blurred the lines between high and low culture, making art more accessible and reflective of modern society.
